Emily Browning is just one of the many stars who travelled to the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival. Fresh off her worldwide promotion of Sucker Punch, she’s jumped straight into press duties for her new movie Sleeping Beauty, an Australian production that’s a dark, modern retelling of the classic tale (it’s also the first fully Australian film in the Cannes competition since Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge in 2001). Directed by Julia Leigh under the mentorship of Jane Campion, the film shocked audiences with its graphic scenes and unique interpretation of the Sleeping Beauty story, though Emily has earned great reviews for her committed performance as a university student who works as a prostitute. Emily posed for pictures at the photo call and premiere, which saw the return of Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen to the red carpet, as well as appearances from Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson, Mia Wasikowska and Alexa Chung.
