Reese Fined and Jim on Probation After Court Date

Reese Witherspoon's lawyer appeared in an Atlanta court today to plead no contest to the disorderly conduct charges that stemmed from her April arrest. She will pay a minor fine for the infraction, though her husband, Jim Toth, will face more serious consequences following his DUI charge. Jim pled guilty in front of the judge, resulting in 40 hours of community service and a 12-month probation.

Reese and Jim were both arrested last month after Jim was pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence. Reese has since spoken out about the incident and stopped by Good Morning America today to apologise for her actions while promoting her upcoming film Mud.

Lindsay Lohan Handcuffed, Detained For Probation Violations

Lindsay Lohan may be back in jail today after an LA judge sentenced her to be held for violating her probation. Lindsay failed to complete her required service at the Downtown Women's Center, and in her probation report, she apparently called the work "unfulfilling." The probation department, for some reason, filled out a glowing report for Lindsay, and that also made the judge angry. Lindsay did, however, travel to NYC and Paris for Fashion Week during the time in which she was expected to complete the service. Lindsay's bondsman was reportedly sent to get her out of jail today after bail was set at US$100,000. She'll be back in court on Nov. 2, when it will be determined whether or not LL faces a year and a half in jail for the violations. If bail isn't posted, Lindsay could be behind bars until then.

Lindsay Lohan Won't Go Back to Jail After Failing Alcohol Test

Lindsay Lohan won’t be going back to jail despite reports she failed a random alcohol test last week. The actress has been under house arrest since the end of May and has apparently been hosting parties at her Venice, California condo. She was tested for alcohol twice last week - one had a positive result, the other negative - and attended a probation hearing in LA yesterday. She won’t face jail time because the previous judge in her case had only ordered controlled substances testing between January and February, however Lindsay has been told to curb her partying and is limited to one guest at a time at her home excluding family.

Lindsay Lohan Starts House Arrest and Stars in an Art Film

After Lindsay Lohan pleaded no contest in her jewellery theft case a few weeks ago she was sentenced to four months in jail, but instead of heading to prison the actress will be serving her sentence at home. She turned herself in to the Lynwood Jail at 5:02 a.m. Thursday (LA time), was fitted with an electronic ankle bracelet, and an hour later had returned to her Venice, California home to start her house arrest. An LA sheriff spokesman told People, “She is now confined to the interior premises of her home at all times.” She may only have to serve about two weeks of her sentence.

Mel Gibson Welcomes Third Grandchild After Court Drama

After a stressful few months surrounding his court drama with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, which culminated in a court case on Friday, Mel Gibson spent the past weekend celebrating the arrival of his third grandchild. A friend of the actor’s told People, “He was overwhelmed with emotion. He gets that way around babies . . . He was overjoyed.” The newest Gibson addition was his daughter Hannah’s baby boy. As for the court case, Mel escaped any jail time but was sentenced to three years probation, a year-long domestic violence counselling program, community service and various fines (he had previously reached a plea deal). Oksana’s lawyers said she’s satisfied with the result and “will now concentrate on co-parenting Lucia, resuming her charitable work . . . and moving forward with her life.”

She's facing possible prison time over a necklace she allegedly stole, and she was given an ultimatum during her last appearance in court in February that she'd have to pick either a plea bargain or trial. It seems no new ground was broken, as her decision-making period was extended until March 25. Her first option is pleading guilty or no contest and serving three months in jail, or taking a risk of a multi-year sentence with a trial that would start on April 22. Lindsay has said that she wants to get back to work and move beyond her legal troubles, but first she has a choice to make. What do you think - should Lindsay take the plea or not?

Mel Gibson Reaches a Plea Deal in Domestic Violence Case

It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Mel Gibson and ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, but the drama between the two isn’t over yet. Mel is currently in the middle of a domestic violence case after Oksana alleged that he punched her in the head and face at his Malibu home back in January 2010. (Mel admitted to slapping her but says it wasn’t that hard and that he just wanted to get her to stop shaking their baby daughter Lucia.)

He’s expected to appear in court on Friday but to avoid the court battle from getting too messy Mel has reportedly struck a plea deal where he won’t get any jail time. He’ll plead no contest to simple battery and will most likely have to go through counselling and serve probation. He’s taking this route because he wants to minimise the effects of the case on his family, especially Lucia and his other kids. His lawyer Blair Berk said in a statement: “Mel’s priority throughout all of this has been that the best interests of his young daughter Lucia and the rest of his children be put first in any decisions made. It is with only that in mind that he asked me to approach the District Attorney with a proposal that would bring all of this to an immediate end.”

Matthew Newton's Lawyer Says He Has a "Psychiatric Illness"

Following his arrest after breaching an Apprehended Violence Order and contacting ex-fiancée Rachael Taylor, Matthew Newton appeared at the Downing Centre Local Court this morning. He was originally arrested because he allegedly tried phoning Rachael in February, and then sent her a series of text messages to apologise for contacting her in the first place. Today his solicitor Chris Murphy revealed that his client had been harassed and attacked since news of the assault broke out, and that it made Matthew “nervous for his life.” He believes the harassment has been perpetuated by the media.

As for what Matthew is being treated for in rehab (Matt checked back into Northside West Clinic in Wentworthville), Mr. Murphy said, “He doesn’t have any addictions, he has a psychiatric illness,” and that due to the health implications the case may be dealt under the Mental Health Act. The case was adjourned for today and will continue at the Downing Centre Local Court on April 13.

Christina Aguilera and Boyfriend Matthew Rutler Arrested!

Christina Aguilera and her boyfriend Matthew Rutler were apparently arrested early this morning in LA. She was picked up for public intoxication and he for an alleged DUI. He was apparently pulled over for driving erratically at about 2:45 a.m., and she was "unable to take care of herself."

According to stories that keep emerging, Christina is going through a difficult time since her split with Jordan Bratman last October. She also recently flubbed the words to the National Anthem at the Super Bowl and stumbled on stage at the Grammys. Reports say that her friends are worried about her and think she should consider checking into rehab. If she is in trouble, perhaps this arrest will be the wake-up call she needs.

Lindsay Lohan Faces Her Latest Morning in Court

Lindsay Lohan was in an LA court yet again yesterday for a hearing in her felony theft case. The troubled actress, who is charged with stealing a US$2,500 necklace from a Venice Beach jewellery store, was presented with a tough ultimatum this morning - she can either settle the case with the district attorney and face "significant" jail time, or take her chances by pleading not guilty and hoping the court takes mercy on her. The judge, Keith Stewart, warned the star this morning that, "This case does involve jail time. Period." Lindsay looked sombre, arriving in a cleavage-baring top and wide-legged pants after sporting a tight, white dress to her last appointment. Lindsay will have to decide which option to choose by her next appearance on March 10. Her court drama has occupied much of her time lately, but she's also fitting in a little work, a few social outings, and maybe even a reunion with Samantha Ronson.
