We spent some time with Miranda Kerr before the David Jones Spring Summer Fashion Launch on Tuesday night, and one of the things we've always wanted to ask her is how she gets that perfect red-orange lip. Whether she's walking out of the airport or carrying baby Flynn around New York, Miranda's bright lipstick makes her look both polished and super duper fresh-faced. We asked the big question and she was only too happy to divulge, click through to find out her go-to lip products — that's right, there's more than one...
In the midst of the mayhem backstage at the David Jones Spring Summer Fashion Launch, I spent some time chatting to three of Australia's most in-demand models before they hit the runway. After all, who doesn't want to know what models use to look like, well, models? We were busy little bees yesterday, as BellaSugar ed Alison, and FabSugar ed Ali, spent the afternoon and well into the night quizzing models including Miranda Kerr, Jessica Gomes and Montana Cox about their fashion and beauty must-haves and lust-haves from backstage at the David Jones Spring Summer Fashion Launch. We were there for all the action before the runway show, and in a flurry of front row celebrities, makeup, shoes, celebrities, beautiful bodies and even more beautiful clothes, we emerged with some pretty cool behind-the-scenes snaps. Let's go!
We saw two hair looks on the runway at the David Jones Spring Summer Fashion Launch last night, but our favourite had to be the Gwyneth Paltrow inspired ponytail – the look that had everyone talking at this year’s Oscars. Styled on the night by the Aveda team, the look is not only easy to get at home, but your new go-to for a classic ‘do. For a step-by-step on how to get Gwen’s cool pony straight from last night’s hair experts, keeping reading.
We've collated all of Miranda Kerr's amazing exits from last night's David Jones new season spectacular, but what of the rest of the catwalk show? In case your invitation went astray, we've rounded up the best runway looks from the department store's Spring Summer 2012-'13 collections so you can get a heads-up on what's hot for the season ahead. Think of the following as a refresher course in the runway trends we first saw at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia; neon, white-on-white, hot-house floral prints, statement suiting and bold graphic prints were the topline trends from local designers. Apart from Ms Kerr, David Jones also enlisted catwalking skills of Montana Cox, Jessica Gomes, Alexandra Agoston, Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Alice Burdeu, Louise van der Vorst and Samantha Harris. Last night's David Jones Spring Summer Fashion Launch was a beauty feast for the eyes. Models including Miranda Kerr, Montana Cox, Jessica Gomes, Louise Van Der Vorst and Samantha Harris walked the runway to show off the department store's Spring/Summer '12 fashion offerings, but we were most excited to see the two exclusive beauty looks Napoleon Perdis put together hit the runway. The looks were held up by a flawless complexion against bright matte colours — namely spearmint eyes and red lips. His modern take on colour really speaks to the upcoming season's punchy and powerful fashion trends. Click through to see Miranda, Montana, Jessica and all the other models rocking Napoleon's handiwork in our round-up of the runway.
Miranda Kerr wore a cut-out white swimsuit from Carla Zampatti for the David Jones Spring/Summer 2012-2013 fashion launch held at Elizabeth Street's David Jones store in Sydney last night. She also strutted down the catwalk in a handful of other looks from Aussie design houses. Miranda arrived in Sydney a few days ago, fresh off a Hamilton Island vacation with her son, Flynn Bloom, and husband Orlando Bloom, who's back in LA now. Miranda spoke about her busy modelling career, as well as her life with the Bloom boys, during interviews before the David Jones presentation. We were backstage so stay tuned for our chats with the models.
With the David Jones Spring Summer 2012 Fashion Launch due to begin in just two hours, we've got a sneak peek at the two, exclusive looks Napoleon Perdis — the department store's makeup director — has created for the event. It's all about a flawless complexion against bright matte colours on the eyes and lips — a strong beauty look that really speaks to the upcoming season's punchy and powerful fashion trends.
"Spring/Summer is always about colour and this year it’s no different," says Napoleon. "Working with stylist Kelvin Harries, I had a preview of the some of the pieces and noticed that there’s a strong trend for saturated primary colours – especially reds, oranges, and pinks. So I’ve reflected that direction through to two strong lip hues to anchor the whole look: a matte orange and a matte red."
Napoleon has also created custom eye colours for the event, in looks that bring us back to powerful pastels. "I love a pastel palette for Summer – for David Jones I’ve customised two gorgeous shades of eye shadow in a powdery blue and a soft spearmint. I’ve added some white into both hues to keep it chalky and totally matte ... The clash of pastels against the red and orange lips is a really modern way to wear colour – just keep it matte," he says.
