Zooey Deschanel Talks Life Change in Glamour — "I've Never Been a Five-Year Planner"

Zooey Deschanel graces the cover of US Glamour's February issue.

Zooey Deschanel graces the cover of US Glamour's February issue. Since New Girl debuted in 2011, the show — and Zooey — have racked up multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. On Jan. 13, Zooey will find out if she takes home the Golden Globe for best actress in a TV comedy or musical. Inside the magazine, Zooey discusses her "oddly controversial" TV character, whether she feels pressured to look a certain way, and dating advice. Here's more from Zooey Deschanel in Glamour:

  • On her New Girl character: "I'm just being myself. There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can't be feminine and be feminists and be successful?"
  • On feeling pressures to look a certain way: "I don't. But actresses have definitely gotten thinner over the course of my lifetime. Women I admired growing up — Debra Winger, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep — were all beautiful and thin, but not too thin. There are a lot of actresses who are unhealthy-skinny — much, much too skinny. You can't Pilates to that. I'm a very small person, and if I lost 15 pounds, I'd look like them; it's scary. For young girls, what does that say? You need to look this way to be successful? That's not true. You do not need to look or be anorexic to be successful in Hollywood. The range of what's acceptable is larger than what people believe."
  • On giving friends dating advice: "It depends on the people. Everyone has to make some compromises . . . I think of my parents, who have been married for 40 years, and my grandparents, who were married for 69 years before my grandfather passed away. My dad is so sweet; he's always like, 'Your mum is a better cook than any restaurant.' And I remember my grandfather looking at my grandmother, saying, 'She's the most beautiful woman in the world.' You can't get any better than that. But we live in a different time. I don't get it when people just have the goal of meeting someone — then it's only about the goal. I've never been a five-year planner."

Selena Gomez Talks Taylor Swift, Justin, and Giving Back in Glamour

Selena Gomez looks holiday-ready on the cover of Glamour's December issue, wearing a silky Zac Posen gown and surrounded by balloons.

Selena Gomez looks holiday-ready on the cover of Glamour's December issue, wearing a silky Zac Posen gown and surrounded by balloons. The 20-year-old singer, actress, and philanthropist was named one of Glamour's 2012 Women of the Year, and she sat down with the magazine to talk about her experiences as the youngest-ever US ambassador for UNICEF. She also chatted about her upbringing, best friend Taylor Swift, and, of course, her boyfriend, Justin Bieber. She'll be officially honoured at the Women of the Year Awards in NYC on Nov. 12. Here's more from Selena Gomez in Glamour:

  • On her UNICEF charity work: "I went to Ghana with my mum and my stepdad for UNICEF; that entire trip was life-changing. These kids want an education so badly. I mean, I hated homework, and they want it; it's amazing. I also participated in the Global Poverty Project's Live Below the Line campaign, where I lived on $1.50 a day for a week — such a cool experience."
  • On not letting negativity affect her: "If I had let all of the negative stuff affect me, I don't think I would be satisfied with the person I am now. My mum always told me, “Just turn the other cheek and keep moving forward.” That's something I've always done, and now I look back and I have no regrets."
  • On keeping in touch with Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber: "I actually did talk to Taylor last week, and we were like, 'I don't even remember the last time I saw you,' which is really unfortunate. But if it gets too dire, I fly to Taylor, or I fly to Justin."

Just in time to inspire your own special-occasion looks, Alexa and Rashida offered perfect plays on effortless party dressing, with Alexa in a sweet printed this Topshop dress (that Pop incidentally fell for at the Sydney store opening!), tights, and loafer combo, and Rashida keeping it more classic in a fit-and-flare LBD and Valentino heels. For a more alternative route, we'll look to Coco, who decked out a pair of tartan trousers with a velvet blazer and booties for a cool-girl play on prep-school styling. As for the other notable arrivals (like Olivia Wilde in a slick leather look), you'll have to click through — then be sure to tell us who gets your vote for best dressed of the night.

The 23-year-old actress is gearing up for the release of her latest project, Liberal Arts, in which she stars opposite Josh Radnor. Elizabeth is currently filming Very Good Girls in her hometown of NYC, but she broke from work to open up about fame and how she is handling it all in the publication. As the younger sister of famous twins Mary-Kate and Ashley, she also discusses the weight of carrying the Olsen name. Here's more from Elizabeth in Glamour magazine:

  • She doesn't trade on her name: "My last name has always been my motivator to get proper acting training and be taken seriously. I didn't get to where I am because of who I'm related to."
  • On how she's juggling it all: "I love school, but I got cast in Martha while I was at New York University. So I was like, screw it. I'll take this semester off. I'm still trying to figure out how I can finish my degree while doing all this!"
  • She's weirded out by fame:: "Yesterday three people told me that I look like Elizabeth Olsen. That's never happened before. So awkward."

Jennifer Lawrence Talks Katniss Everdeen and The Hunger Games in Glamour

Jennifer Lawrence covers Glamour's new April 2012 edition, decked out in a top by Elie Tahari, Lucky jeans, and a Jennifer Meyer bracelet.

Jennifer Lawrence covers Glamour's new April 2012 edition, decked out in a top by Elie Tahari, Lucky jeans, and a Jennifer Meyer bracelet. She tops the magazine's list of the hottest actresses of 2012, a ranking that also includes starlets like Emma Stone, Rooney Mara, and Adele. Jennifer has begun her mega press tour on behalf of The Hunger Games, which is in cinemas on March 22. She opened up about how she knew from the beginning that the role of Katniss Everdeen would change her life, which has already been altered by the money and acclaim she's received thus far. Jennifer told Glamour:

  • On taking on the role of Katniss: "I gave myself three days. I knew from reading the books that I loved The Hunger Games. I just didn't know if it was worth changing my life for. I’m at a peaceful place right now. The people who used to ignore me at parties, now they're nice to me and kissing my ass. But nobody's staked outside my house. I wanted to make sure that when I said yes, I wouldn't regret it. And I don't regret it. I would have said no because I was scared, and then I would have been that bitter actress telling my grandkids, 'I'm the one that turned it down.'"
  • On adjusting to her new life: "Just recently I started letting myself eat things from the minibar. When we were kids, we would never open the minibar. A $6 Snickers bar? But the other day I was in a hotel and I was staring at a Snickers bar, and I finally just ate it. Then it was like something in me snapped. I opened all these drinks. I thought: I can do it now. Now I’m all grown-up. I can eat things from the minibar."
  • On being a public person: "In some ways, it's a hard life, but it's a great professional life. I'm doing what I love, and then I get months and months of rest. I have a lot of money for a 21-year-old. I can't stand it when actors complain."

Rachel McAdams Wants Blue Hair "At Some Point"

Rachel McAdams has landed the cover of Glamour magazine's February 2012 issue, sporting a volumised, tousled up 'do and bold red lip.

Rachel McAdams has landed the cover of Glamour magazine's February 2012 issue, sporting a volumised, tousled up 'do and bold red lip. The Notebook star talked about her new film The Vow, how she ties her hair up in buns all over her head to get it dry, as well as the various beauty looks she's tried both on- and off-screen.

On her past hairstyles: I always wanted pink hair. I wanted to do my whole head, but my hairstylist, Robert, was like, "How about we start small?" I absolutely loved it. I still think about doing blue at some point, but I don't like to change my hair before I'm about to do [a film] — you never know what that character's going to be.

Her makeup as a competitive figure skater: I definitely was in the sequinned, bedazzled era. We would put blue eyeshadow up our eyebrows, and glitter all over our faces.

On developing her character's look: Yeah, I love those preliminary conversations about who a character is. You try on wigs, shoes and clothes. It's preferable when it's not about looking pretty. It can get a little dull to just be cute.

Kim Kardashian Says She Needs to Be More "Realistic"

Kim Kardashian and her sisters Kourtney and Khloé are all smiles on the January cover of Glamour.

Kim Kardashian and her sisters Kourtney and Khloé are all smiles on the January cover of Glamour. In the accompanying shoot by Ben Watts, the famous siblings go from the dance floor to a fun slumber party. The magazine had the opportunity to interview Kim after she announced she was divorcing Kris Humphries after 72 days of marriage. During their chat, “hopeless romantic” Kim said, “I believe in love and the dream of having a perfect relationship, but my idea of it has changed. I think I need to not live in a fairytale like that. I think I maybe need to just snap out of it and be a little more realistic.” As a child growing up, she “always wanted what Mum and Dad had. And at first I was like, I want six kids. Then I went down to four, then I was down to three . . . and now I’m like, maybe I won’t have any. Maybe I’ll just be a good aunt.” Her supportive — and perhaps more grounded — sisters think she’s being dramatic, and reassure her that she’ll have love again.

Lighten Up: Chelsea Handler Talks Trends She'll Never Try!

We love funny girl Chelsea Handler for her frank honesty about, well, everything!

We love funny girl Chelsea Handler for her frank honesty about, well, everything! And her latest revelation to Glamour mag — who named her a Woman of the Year — is another example of how she's willing to go on the record about "un-talkable" subjects. Like bleaching one's nether regions. "First, it was laser hair removal. You put yourself through that torture, and then it’s ‘Sorry, laser hair removal’s out of style!’ And you’re like, What? So I’m not going to be tricked into this other thing. I might put a Crest Whitestrip up there, but I will not go and bleach it."
