What a week it's been! So much of this week's action has taken place in Australia, and it's been non-stop since the get-go. Baz Luhrmann brought his The Great Gatsby to town on a very rainy Wednesday night, and with him at the premiere were the film's stars Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton and Elizabeth Debicki, to name a few. The latest crop of CLEO Bachelors were announced, David Jones celebrated it's 175th birthday with a host of stylish stars like Megan Gale and Rachael Finch, and honorary Aussie Joel Madden went on a coffee run in Sydney with his adorable family. Wanna know what's been keeping us busy at POPSUGAR this week? We were thrown into the glitz and glamour of The Great Gatsby when we hit the red carpet at the film's Sydney premiere. Between chatting to Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, we were treated to a visual feast as guests came dressed in 1920's theme; a standout was one of the film's stars, Elizabeth Debicki, in her Dior dazzler. Speaking of all things pretty, Ali went to many showings this week and spied great new shoes and apparel coming our way for Spring/Summer, while Alison got up close and personal with new scents and a cool new makeup collaboration. Oh, and then there were the CLEO Bachelors of the Year. . .

The Great Gatsby Fun Continues With a Glittery Tiffany & Co. Dinner

One night of Gatsby glamour in Sydney simply wasn’t enough! Following on from the glitzy Australian premiere of The Great Gatsby on Wednesday, Tiffany & Co. and Vogue hosted an exclusive dinner at Neil Perry’s Rockpool Bar and Grill to welcome The Great Gatsby Collection of jewels into the country last night. Director Baz Luhrmann was on hand for the Jazz Age-inspired event, as were some of his stars: luminous leading ladies Carey Mulligan and Elizabeth Debicki, and Joel Edgerton, who brought his reported fiancée Alexis Blake. Models were decked out 1920s-style in dresses inspired by the era, and they also wore pieces from the collection, which were created in collaboration with Baz’s costume and production designer wife, Catherine Martin, and worn by the cast. The VIP event attracted a crowd that included Ricky Martin, Gracie Otto and Erica Packer, who were treated to Rockpool’s menu and a performance from Brendan Maclean.

The Great Gatsby Stars Return to Sydney For a Glitzy and Rainy Premiere

“I think there’s a cloud following us,” said Joel Edgerton at last night’s cold and wet Sydney premiere of The Great Gatsby. The red carpet was rolled out at the Entertainment Quarter, which was transformed into a Gatsby hub complete with guests decked in their best ’20s-inspired dress, and just like at the Cannes Film Festival last week, the number one accessory was an umbrella.

It was a fitting way for the film’s cast and crew to wrap up their press tour considering they spent months shooting at Fox Studios over 2011 and 2013. Leading man Leonardo DiCaprio had to pull out of the Sydney premiere due to a scheduling conflict, but there was still plenty of star power thanks to Tobey Maguire, a Nina Ricci-clad Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Elizabeth Debicki (in Dior) and filmmaking power couple Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin.

Despite his absence, Leonardo was still a hot conversation topic, as Tobey told us about how important Leo was for getting the movie made. When we asked if he would have taken on the role of narrator Nick Carraway if it weren’t for Leo’s involvement and encouragement, Tobey said, “I don’t think the movie would’ve happened without me, Leo and Baz agreeing to do it. I just don’t think there’s any way it would’ve happened right now, without any one of us. That’s my opinion, but I know that he [Leo] was integral to me as I was to him, and Baz was to us . . . Baz was collaborating with Catherine Martin, and then Craig Pearce early on, but when Leo and I came on, we had our own little triangle there. There was a little circle of trust where we went, ‘OK, let’s move forward in this process together,’ and I think we were all essential to each other at that point.”

In a recent magazine interview, Carey mentioned how lots of her friends had Leo as their pin-up growing up, but that he wasn’t her celebrity crush, so we quizzed her on who her pin-up was. “Do you know, I didn’t really have many pin-ups when I was younger. I didn’t have posters on my wall, but I do remember really liking Michael Schumacher, the Formula One racing driver. Don’t know what that was about!” she said with a laugh.

Rising star Elizabeth, who looked radiant on the red carpet with minimal makeup, said she “pinched myself” going to set every day, and that “in a funny way, when you work with actors you respect so much, it takes a while to normalise and let them be other actors, but it was a really tight-knit cast and very supportive.” And while Elizabeth couldn’t think of any funny off-set stories off the top of her head, fellow Aussie Joel said, “I’d like to think I was like the Australian tourism board, but those guys discovered their own kind of nooks and crannies of Sydney.”

Most of the attention on the night was on the movie’s stars, but local stars were out in force and braving the rain to be among the first in Australia to see the film, including The Voice’s Delta Goodrem, Joel Madden and Darren McMullen, Jesinta Campbell, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Jack Thompson and Stephanie Rice. Gatsby Brings the Glamour at the Cannes Opening Ceremony

It was a big night in France as the Cannes Film Festival kicked off with the opening ceremony and the premiere of The Great Gatsby! Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Debicki (in Alex Perry) and Tobey Maguire all hit the red carpet after dressing up for a photo call to promote their film, which is at the festival out of competition, earlier yesterday. Cindy Crawford also showed her support in a white Roberto Cavalli gown while Julianne Moore, Freida Pinto, and juror Nicole Kidman walked the red carpet as well - be sure to check out all the glamorous looks from the Great Gatsby premiere.

They aren't the only stars descending on the French Riviera, since Justin Timberlake, Christoph Waltz, Kirsten Dunst and others have already arrived to take part in the film festival fun.

Leo, Carey and the Gatsby Crew Get the Cannes Party Started

Leonardo DiCaprio suited up to join his The Great Gatsby leading lady, Carey Mulligan, to kick off the Cannes Film Festival with a glamorous photo call for their film yesterday. Leo and Balenciaga-clad Carey were joined by the rest of their co-stars, Isla Fisher, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Elizabeth Debicki, as well as the film's director, Baz Luhrmann, as the annual festival got under way in the South of France. It was a busy day for the Gatsby crew, who also participated in a press conference to discuss the film that opened in the US last Friday (it opens in Australia on May 30). The Great Gatsby boasted impressive numbers in its first week, raking in $51.1 million from its US debut.

Leo and his long-time friend Tobey Maguire were reunited at the festival after pairing up earlier this week in NYC. Tobey showed his support at Leonardo's Christie's auction, which raised $35 million to benefit environmental and wildlife conservation efforts, a cause that is backed by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

The red carpet was rolled out in front of The Star in Sydney for the second annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards last night. The festivities kicked off in the afternoon as the country’s brightest film and TV stars posed for photos and chatted to media on their way into the ceremony. Most of the buzz surrounded The Sapphires, which many actors said they loved - the film, which was up for the most honours, ended up winning 11 of the 12 awards it was nominated for. It was also a successful year for home-grown TV, with plenty of celebrities sharing their love for Puberty Blues.

As for the talent, it was a mix of high-profile Aussies and locally-loved stars who added to the glamour of the event. Cate Blanchett was a vision in red sequinned Armani while Nicole Kidman, who was lovingly greeted at the airport that morning by husband Keith Urban, opted for strapless Erdem. The young stars of Puberty Blues - Brenna Harding, Ashleigh Cummings, Isabelle Cornish, Charlotte Best and Sean Keenan - were out in force and hung out with their onscreen parents, Dan Wylie, Jeremy Lindsay-Taylor and Susie Porter. Visiting Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton brought some international star power to the proceedings, and The Sapphires’ Jessica Mauboy, Deborah Mailman, Shari Sebbens and director Wayne Blair made their entrance together. Rounding out the arrivals was Joel Edgerton, who escorted his reported fiancée Alexis Blake on the way in.
