Knight and Day

Tom Cruise arrived to the admiration of fans yesterday morning when he touched down in Tokyo. Cameron Diaz was by his side later in the day as they hit the red carpet for the Japanese premiere of Knight and Day. Tom went with a sweater for their evening of posing, while Cameron paired her LBD with a pair of hot, neon heels. Promotion for the film has brought Tom and Cameron all across the world, with stops in France, Germany, and London.

Last night Tom Cruise continued to jetset around the globe as he arrived in Japan to promote Knight and Day and was greeted by a group of fans. He was recently in Prague scouting locations for the next Mission Impossible movie, and today it has been announced that much of the movie will be filmed in Dubai. When he was in Japan in 2009 Tom said he was thinking of filming a big action sequence in downtown Tokyo. Guillermo del Toro was said to have his eye on Tom for his adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness but the director said there's nothing tangible there yet.

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz will appear on Channel 9's Top Gear tonight to try and take their places on the leaderboard as stars in a reasonably priced car. While they were promoting Knight and Day all over the world, they managed to swing by the Top Gear studio in the UK to do some hot laps. Cameron's lap was expletive-filled as she tried to work out the gearbox, and Tom took the car up onto two wheels as he took a corner. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz were out in France last week to premiere Knight and Day. The co-stars have been side-by-side for all the worldwide travel for the film, with stops in Munich and London last week.

They've made their way around the globe with recent stops in Brazil and Mexico after the world premiere in Spain last month. Cameron's gearing up to start filming her next movie, Swingles, while Tom's rep shot down rumours that he and Katie have a reality series in the works after he was spotted taping her during a recent shopping trip in LA.

I recently talked about the tricky territory that is the action rom com and the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz vehicle Knight and Day was poised to be another stone in the pile of failed attempts. However, the dynamic duo pulled through, and with the help of a clever script and lightning quick, entertaining action, they've delivered a perfectly fun little flick.
The lightweight story has enough intrigue to keep you interested, and Cruise plays Roy Miller, the kind of character he should be looking for more of in movies—a vaguely mysterious hero who throws punches more than he monologues. As June, Diaz is a perky delight, as usual (though her spotty Boston accent almost derails her). But generally, it's tough to complain much about Knight and Day as a popcorn flick; it's so fast-paced that all you have time to do is enjoy yourself.
