Last night saw a bunch of famous Aussie models, musos and all-round pretty people joining famed DJ Martin Solveig in Sydney for the annual MTV Summer Party. The party celebrated all things summer, in true MTV style — with flowing drinks, sexy summer style from Nathan Jolliffe and Jules Sebastian and some seriously good beats coming from the likes of DJ Havana Brown, Alison Wonderland and the guest of honour, Solveig. It's been a week full of events for the visiting Frenchman — on Saturday night he welcomed Pacha to Sydney along with a star-studded crowd at Ivy, after playing at Stereosonic just hours before. Glamorous Ladies and Hot Men Light Up the GQ Men of the Year Awards
Last night’s GQ Men of the Year Awards attracted some of Australia’s brightest stars to the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney. Veterans and newcomers of the entertainment industry gathered for the black tie gala to celebrate men — and one woman! — in different fields, with the highest honour, Man of the Year, going to Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth. Chris, who also fronts GQ’s December issue (on sale now), wasn’t able to pick up his award, but expressed his gratitude via video, saying, “GQ has been so supportive of me right from the beginning of my career and it’s an honour and a privilege to be acknowledged within their pages.”
Rising star Bella Heathcote was named Woman of the Year, and Callan McAuliffe, at age 17, is the magazine’s youngest winner, taking home Breakthrough of the Year. Other winners included Guy Sebastian for Solo Artist of the Year, Matt Moran for Chef of the Year, and Sam Sparro for Man of Style. The guest list was filled with actors such as Phoebe Tonkin, Jodi Gordon, Samara Weaving, Todd Lasance and Asher Keddie, models Jessica Gomes and Samantha Harris, as well as TV personalities Ruby Rose and Molly Meldrum, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong.
Elton John Talks Son Zachary, Madonna's Career and Lady Gaga With Molly Meldrum
![]()
Elton John sat down with Molly Meldrum for a special interview that aired on Channel Seven’s Sunday Night on the weekend. The two are old friends and in Molly’s voice over he revealed that Elton was one of the first people to call after Molly’s accident before Christmas last year. Elton said to Molly, “Without making people dissolve into tears, you are the best thing that ever happened to Australian music. You’re a legend, and you’re a friend, and you’ve stuck by me through the good times and the bad times, and now the good times again, because you are institution, and it’s great to see you back.” Conversation quickly turned to Elton’s son with David Furnish, 19-month-old Zachary, and the proud dad shared photos from his iPad, saying, “I’m obsessed with him. I love him so much.” This interview has also made international headlines due to Elton’s latest quotes about Madonna — the two are famously feuding. But Elton had nothing but praise for younger pop stars like Katy Perry, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, who is Zachary’s godmother: “She’s amazing. Wherever she is in the world, she sends texts saying, 'How is he?' She comes and bathes him, she sings to him — she’s a good godmother. She really pays attention.” Watch the full chat here.
Molly Meldrum Makes a Triumphant Industry Return at the Star-Studded ASTRA Awards
Some of Australia’s brightest television stars gathered for the ASTRA Awards held at the Sydney Theatre at Walsh Bay last night. The event honours the shows and talent on subscription television, and some of the winners included Donna Hay for favourite female personality, Andrew Winter for favourite male personality, and Cloudstreet for most outstanding drama (the full list of winners can be found here).
Rove McManus, Asher Keddie, Ruby Rose and Megan Gale were among the presenters handing out awards, but the most talked-about person to take the stage was Molly Meldrum, who made a special appearance to present the coveted channel of the year honour to Fox Sports. It was his first official outing since his critical fall in December, and he showed the results of his recovery after being carried out on stage by four men dressed as Egyptian slaves. Molly said to the crowd, who were all on their feet, “I am so honoured to be involved in this year’s ASTRA Awards. What an incredible show and a fantastic night looking back over the industry.”

Watch Molly Meldrum on Today Tonight, His First TV Interview Since His Fall
![]()
Molly Meldrum granted his first TV interview since his horrific fall in December to Today Tonight. He spoke with Jennifer Keyte in an exclusive that aired last night. Of the fall, which happened as he was trying to hang up Christmas decorations on the roof of his Melbourne home, Molly said, “I don’t remember any after that. It’s a blur to me. It’s not a blur — I don’t even remember it.” He was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery and spent eight weeks in a coma, during which family and friends maintained a vigil by his side. Doctors said the fall resulted in a traumatic head injury that “shook his brain up.” Molly said, “I refused to accept when I’d heard. I was like, ‘No, no, I’ve just bumped my head.’” He went on to tell Jennifer about his attempts to escape from hospital, and how he got as far as a cafe but was recognised while trying to order a coffee — he referred to the hospital as his “Alcatraz.” The most important thing is that Molly looks well, doctors are confident about his long-term memory, and he’s already got some work ideas planned: he’d like to interview Elton John with his family, and Lady Gaga. First Pictures of Molly Meldrum on the Road to Recovery
Molly Meldrum is on the mend, and last night Seven News shared exclusive pictures of Molly recovering at Epworth Rehabilitation in Richmond, taken yesterday afternoon. He was delighted to be reunited with his dog Ziggy, and accompanying the photos was a statement from Molly to thank the Australian public for their support since his horrible fall in December, which left him in a critical condition. He said, “Believe it or not while I can’t say I like being hospital, I know I have been very well supported, and I have enjoyed meeting other patients and their families. We all have a fair bit of rehab ahead of us and we encourage each other in the exercise programs. I have missed everybody, missed my work, missed having access to a phone and my laptop — but I know I can re-introduce these things gradually as I get better. I have been incredibly well-looked after at both the Alfred and Epworth hospitals. The staff have been tremendous and I am very grateful.” Molly also said he received a card from Julia Gillard, adding, “I hope she’s having a better time than I am!”

Molly Meldrum Opens Eyes, Shows Signs of Recovery
![]()
Things are looking positive for Molly Meldrum. According to his brother, Brian, the music industry legend opened his eyes, which has made their family optimistic about his recovery. But Brian says they’re also being realistic: “In terms of him being brought to a point of him being able to talk to us, and communicate with us, I can’t imagine that will happen any time soon, and when I say soon, certainly not in the next couple of days.”
Still, any sign from Molly at this stage is better than none at all. He has been at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne since last Thursday night; when he was brought in he was in a critical condition after falling from the roof of his house while putting up Christmas decorations. An outpour of thoughts and prayers came from Australian fans and celebrities, including Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe and The Veronicas.
