Rose Byrne and fellow Aussie actor Brendan Cowell have called it quits after nearly seven years together. The two split last month right before the Golden Globes. On the red carpet Rose posed with her co-star Tate Donovan and at the time, I wondered why her boyfriend wasn’t with her. Brendan is currently based in LA, while Rose is based in New York, where she films her TV series Damages. The pair met through friends band began dating in 2003, but spent most of the time living on opposite sides of the globe, which put a strain on their relationship.

Overall, I’d have to say the 67th annual Golden Globes were a bit underwhelming. No water cooler moments to talk about, no drunk celebs (Julia Roberts was maybe a little tipsy) and no big laughs. I REALLY wanted to like Ricky Gervais as host. I already like him, but he just wasn’t that funny. Usually there’s a team writing one-liners up until the last second for the host, but I wasn’t wowed. Let’s take a look at the evening’s hits and misses.
Miss: Aussies with American accents. We’re talking to you Nicole Kidman and Mel Gibson.
Hit: Heartfelt speeches from Mo’Nique and Meryl Streep.
Miss: Hot mess speeches from Drew Barrymore and Chloe Sevigny. Pull yourselves together already. Remember Gwyneth’s messy Oscar speech? It’s not a good look.
Hit: Robert Downey Jr. He gave us the only funny speech of the night.
Miss: Toni Collette talking about being “on the loo” when she was nominated 15 years ago during her acceptance speech. Cringe.
Hit: Sexy babes—Rose Byrne, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock.
Miss: Men with facial hair (Jon Hamm, George Clooney).
Hit: Ricky Gervais did land one zinger when he said he liked a drink as much as the next man—unless the next man was Mel Gibson.
Miss: Sam Worthington looking pained while he was presenting. You know he would have rather been anywhere else. But at least he got to take home a presenter gift basket.
Miss: Where was all the star power? Brad and Angelina? Tom and Katie? Alec Baldwin?
Hit: Glee winning for Best Television Series—Comedy or Musical!
Hit: James Cameron saying the his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow should have won the best director prize. Very gracious.
Miss: Ah-nuld Schwarzenegger calling Avatar "Avadar.”
The Golden Globes are supposed to be the fun, boozy party next to the staid Oscars. Hopefully we can expect a little more in the laugh department when Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin host the Academy Awards on March 7. But what did you think—what are your picks for hits and misses?
Doesn't anyone walk the red carpet with their significant other these days? Of course I care about who wins and what they're wearing, but I also want to know who their date is for the special evening. And why didn't Keith and Nicole walk the red carpet? You can always count on them doing a little canoodling for the cameras. We didn't even get that. But I did have a look at the rest of the Aussie contingent and here's the scoop.
The Aussie posse was out in full force this afternoon in LA for the Golden Globe Awards. Rose Byrne looked stunning in purple Lanvin and Toni Collette wore a glittery gown. Sam Worthington had girlfriend Natalie Mark on his arm once again and Simon Baker, Jesse Spencer and Ryan Kwanten were looking very handsome. We’re just waiting to see what Nicole was wearing. Hurry up already! Stay tuned for all the coverage and make sure you vote on all of Fab and Bella’s rate it or hate it polls.

Rose Byrne is the third Aussie nominated for a 2010 Golden Globe and to be perfectly honest, she's not our strongest chance at a gong. Recognised for her supporting role on theTV series Damages, Rose is, at best, an outside chance.
This is Rose's second Golden Globe nomination for Damages—her first was in 2007. With none of last year's nominees returning, you would assume this category is wide open. But you'd be wrong. The real race is between Big Love's Chloe Sevigny and Jane Lynch (Glee). It's Chloe's second Globe nod, her first came in 2000 for a supporting role in Boys Don't Cry, and being the quirky, big-name star that she is, Chloe should appeal to the slightly left-of-centre, popularity-seeking Foreign Press. Plus, with Supporting Actress in a TV or miniseries not considered by the Oscars, Globers can afford to be a little daring with this award. Then there's Jane, who, with her role on the uber-popular Glee, may just find the show's commercial success enough of a reason to land her the gong.
Who do you think has the best chance of taking home the Best Supporting Actress prize?
Aussie actress Teresa Palmer is dating Joel Edgerton’s brother Nash. Teresa is currently based in Hollywood and has had a string of high profile exes including Topher Grace, Russell Brand, Adam Brody and AFL player Stuart Dew.

Meanwhile, Nash, who is a stuntman and producer, has also his share of Hollywood hook-ups which include Rose Byrne and Radha Mitchell. The pair spent the Christmas holidays in Sydney and celebrated New Years Eve on Sydney harbour where Palmer did a photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar with the fireworks as a backdrop.

She’s romanced Hugh Dancy (sigh), faced solar flares with Nicholas Cage (she can have that) and next year she’ll sleaze it up with Russell Brand (hmmm, we’ll get back to you on that one), but it’s in her role as Ellen Parsons on Damages that Rose Byrne truly shines. In the Foxtel drama, the Balmain beauty manages to hold her own opposite Hollywood heavy weight Glenn Close and we’re not the only ones who think so. Consistent nods from the AFIs, Emmys and Golden Globes have made the lovely Rose a regular on 2009 red carpets—much to our’s, and Fab’s, delight.
The first big nominations of the awards season have been revealed in Los Angeles and Australia has some heavy hitters in contention for the top TV awards including Simon Baker, Toni Collette and Rose Byrne. Woot woot! Simon was nominated for his role in The Mentalist, while Rose was nominated for her role in the legal drama Damages. Toni received a nomination for the United States of Tara, which earned her an Emmy in September, which was well deserved considering she actually plays four characters in the show. Among the snubs for top film acting awards were Abbie Cornish, who was considered Australia’s best hope for an Oscar for her role in Bright Star. Nicole Kidman also missed out for her role in the ensemble musical Nine. The Golden Globes will be handed out on January 17.

Justin Timberlake, Diane Kruger and John Krasinski were on hand this morning to announce the 2010 Golden Globe Awards nominations in LA. Multiple nods were popular for a number of stars, as Meryl Streep, Matt Damon, Anna Paquin and Sandra Bullock all found themselves nominated twice. Things are also looking good for Up in the Air — Jason Reitman's film scored six nominations, including Best Director, Best Actor (yay Clooney!) and not one but two Best Supporting Actress nods for Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick. The film is also up for Best Motion Picture Drama, along with Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Precious and Inglorious Basterds- which scored an impressive four nods. Nicole Kidman's Nine was also a success, managing five nominations, including acting nods to Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz.
On the TV end, old favourites like Mad Men and 30 Rock got some competition from new show Glee. Glee took home the most nominations of any television program, including Best Actor for Matthew Morrison, Best Actress for Lea Michele, Best Supporting Actress for Jane Lynch and Best TV Program, Musical or Comedy. While on the home front, it was all about the small screen- Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Simon Baker (The Mentalist) and Rose Byrne (Damages) were each nominated for their work.
We'll get to see who takes home the gold when the awards take place on Jan. 17, with Ricky Gervais as host.
