Lots of big stars walked the red carpet outside the Royal Opera House in London this evening for the BAFTAs. Fabulous females chose suitably glamorous gowns, from Twilight nominee Kristen Stewart's short white number to presenters Claire Danes' fabulous full-length silver dress and Kate Winslet's long black creation. BAFTA Fellowship recipient Vanessa Redgrave looked wonderful alongside her daughter Joely Richardson. While nominees Carey Mulligan and Anna Kendrick dazzled.

Sandra Bullock was in high spirits on Friday night as she helped kick off the Santa Barbara Film Festival. She added another honour to her already impressive award season tally, accepting the American Riviera Award from Forest Whitaker. All eyes are on Sandra as the favourite to win the Oscar, but Sandra's not so sure—she expressed her skepticism at the ceremony, saying, "I'm so not winning an Oscar." Other big winners from the evening included Emily Blunt, Saoirse Ronan and Carey Mulligan, who's also nominated for an Academy Award for her role in An Education.

It’s been a busy week for Aussie actors—Sam Worthington has been lining up a boatload of projects and there is also casting news regarding Eric Bana, Guy Pearce and Joel Edgerton. Eric is heading back to action movie territory and is in talks to star opposite Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) in Hanna, a tale about a teenage assassin. (We knew she was trouble as soon as we saw her in Atonement). Eric will play her father, who teaches her to become a cold blooded killing machine.
Meanwhile, Guy Pearce and Mary-Louise Parker (our favourite pot-dealing mum from Weeds!) are set to star in a psychological thriller called The Well. The film is being developed by Philip Seymour Hoffman’s production company and the storyline is still under wraps, but involves “a well-to-do Manhattan couple whose obsessive pursuit of salvation ultimately leads to destruction.”
And last but not least, Joel Edgerton will star in a prequel to John Carpenter’s classic horror movie The Thing. Joel will play a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot who helps stop the rampage when a trapped organism in Antarctica is freed and begins a series of attacks. The movie starts shooting in Toronto on March 15th. It's great to see so many Aussies getting work. Which film are you most excited about?
An Education, The Hurt Locker and Avatar lead the pack in the 2010 Bafta Awards, with eight nominations each! All three are up for Best Film, alongside Precious and Up in the Air. George Clooney, Colin Firth and Andy Serkis are in the running for Leading Actor, Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Gabourey Sidibe are among those fighting it out for the Leading Actress trophy, with Alec Baldwin, Anna Kendrick, Anne-Marie Duff, Kristin Scott Thomas and Stanley Tucci heading up the Supporting Actor and Actress categories.

The stars of The Lovely Bones hit the red carpet last night for their LA premiere. Susan Sarandon, Rachel Weisz, Saoirse Ronan and Rose McIver were decked out alongside director Peter Jackson, while the film's executive producer, Steven Spielberg, went casual in his baseball cap. Superman star Brandon Routh turned out with wife Courtney Ford- who you may recognise from her role on the latest season of Dexter. Mark Wahlberg was able to attend last week's screening in NYC, but he missed this one due to his commitments back on the east coast. One leading man who might have been in attendance was Robert Pattinson — Vampire Diaries star Katerina Graham twittered about seeing him but if he was there, he went undetected by photographers.
