All the talk today has been about the Primetime Emmy nominations and after ruminating a bit, I've got a few reactions to and opinions about the nominees. I've already given you my initial reactions in the comedy categories, so now I'd like to look on the more serious side in the drama department and share my own personal cheers and jeers.
Things that make me go hmm: the True Blood shutout. Obviously the show wasn't totally snubbed, having gotten a nod for Outstanding Drama and Casting, but it's odd that none of the ensemble got an acting nom. At the very least, I thought Anna Paquin would be up since she won theGolden Globe for her role this year, though I would have been most pleased to see Alexander Skarsgard, Nelsan Ellis, or Ryan Kwanten up there for their work in the second season.
The same thing happened to The Pacific—it received 24 nominations—the most of any program—yet none of the actors received a nomination.
Um, hello? Where was sexy Simon Baker? He's the golden child of US TV and missed out on a nomination for The Mentalistthis time around.
Celebrities and football legends took to the pitch at Old Trafford, London Sunday night to compete in Soccer Aid to raise funds for UNICEF UK. After a 2-2 draw it went to penalties and then sudden death, with the Rest of the World team beating the England team in the end—watch footage of the penalties after the jump! Both sides featured impressive lineups: donning the Rest of the World jerseys were our very own Simon Baker, Gordon Ramsay, Woody Harrelson, Mike Myers and Twilight's Michael Sheen. While the home team featured Dominic Cooper, Band of Brothers actor Damian Lewis and Robbie Williams as captain. There were famous faces in the stands too and Robbie shared a hug with Gary Barlow before kick off.
There was a distinct lack of Aussie star power at today's Oscar extravaganza. With only three Down Under nominees and none in the major categories—the Nics, Naomis and Cates were notably absent. Which got us thinking, just where were our home grown stars during Hollywood's night of nights? Luckily, we're on the case and are stalking the gumleaf mafia to find out where the bloody hell they were.

The Mentalist—It’s a double dose of Simon Baker! Hurrah! Tonight the founder of a baseball academy is found dead in his Zen garden. A dead body in your garden has to be bad feng shui. (Nine)
It’s here! It was only a matter of time before the duet between Nicole Kidman and hubby Keith Urban hit YouTube and we’ve got it for you. Yesterday I wrote about how the couple paid tribute to fellow Aussie Simon Baker at the G’Day USA 2010 black tie gala in LA on Saturday night. They made up their own lyrics to the Men at Work song "Land Down Under" to honour their friend. Check out the Moulin Rouge star dancing around and singing. Nicole always seems a little bit reserved and stiff. It’s nice to see her letting her hair down.
