Katie Holmes' The Kennedys Premieres on ABC1 Tonight

The miniseries The Kennedys has been through almost as many ups and downs as the historic American family it portrays.

The miniseries The Kennedys has been through almost as many ups and downs as the historic American family it portrays. It was dropped from the History Channel in the US due to historical inaccuracies, and then HBO also declined to screen the project. It finally found a home on US cable network ReelzChannel and screened in April. Tonight local audiences will get their chance to see it when ABC1 airs the first of the eight-part series, which has been condensed into four 90-minute episodes. It stars Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy and Katie Holmes as Jackie O, and it takes a look at the triumphs and tragedies that led JFK to the White House (watch the trailer here). Considering the controversy surrounding the series, will you be tuning in tonight?

Katie Holmes' Series The Kennedys to Air on ABC in May

Katie Holmes and her co-stars in The Kennedys worked hard on their miniseries about the political family, but even their effort couldn’t stop the History Channel from pulling it from their line up due to historical inaccuracies.

Katie Holmes and her co-stars in The Kennedys worked hard on their miniseries about the political family, but even their effort couldn’t stop the History Channel from pulling it from their line up due to historical inaccuracies. However the eight-part show has managed to find a new home in the US on cable network ReelzChannel and will air in April, and we’ll get to check it out shortly after when it screens on the ABC in May. As with most cinematic accounts of historical events, the controversy surrounding the show is that, as the New York Times put it, “In chronicling the presidency of John F. Kennedy, it compresses time, consolidates characters and invents dialogue for moments never recorded by history’s pen.” Which has resulted in more press and interest.

Katie (Jacqueline Kennedy) and co-star Greg Kinnear (John F. Kennedy) also attended the world premiere of The Kennedys in Beverly Hills today. Katie chose a blue dress for the event and had the support of husband Tom Cruise.

Video: Watch Katie Holmes in The Kennedys Preview

Katie Holmes' The Kennedys hit a significant snag this week when the History Channel announced that it would not be airing the miniseries in the United States.

Katie Holmes' The Kennedys hit a significant snag this week when the History Channel announced that it would not be airing the miniseries in the United States. There are rumours that the Kennedy family themselves may be behind the network pulling the show (they claim there are historical inaccuracies), though the first trailer has also earned a substantial amount of buzz. Today, executive producer Michael Prupas put out a statement about the current status saying they are actively looking for another TV home to air the show in the US, "We don't have an offer in place. We don't have a discussion going on with a specific network. [But] there are several interested in reviewing the material. I know the material and I know anybody who's watched this material and the response has been overwhelmingly positive." The show has been sold to ABC in Australia and as the History Channel can't control the miniseries' rights outside of the US, there's a good chance we'll still get to see it. Check out the preview below and tell us — after all the drama, would you tune in for The Kennedys?

Sultry Katie Holmes Talks Suri's Shopping Style and the Complexity of Portraying Jackie O

Katie Holmes strikes a few flirtatious and sexy poses on the February cover of US Elle.

Katie Holmes strikes a few flirtatious and sexy poses on the February cover of US Elle. She's been ramping up for a busy 2011, which will include juggling her fashion line, travelling with Tom Cruise and their family, starring in two films, and portraying Jackie O in the History Channel's upcoming miniseries The Kennedys. Inside the magazine she shares what it's like to play the role of an American icon and how she prepared herself emotionally for the role. Of course, an interview with the actress wouldn't be complete without a few anecdotal stories about her fashionable daughter, Suri. Here's more:

  • On working hard to perfect her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy: "I worked as hard as I could, because I loved her. On set there was this feeling that we had to create something very special, because these people were very special."
  • On playing such a complex role: "[The Kennedys] were like movie stars. There was such a professionalism to their public image."
  • On Suri's shopping style: "The other day we came out of a store, and she said, 'I want to go there,' pointing at another store quite a distance away. In that store was the dress that she wanted. I said, 'Wow, Suri. You're something. You picked that out from a football field away.'"
  • On getting fashion advice from Suri: "She'll really tell me [what she thinks]. Like today I'm wearing brown suede pants, and she said, 'I don't like your pants.' But then she'll say, 'You've got to wear these shoes.' Or 'That's so pretty, Mum. Wear that.' She's got a great eye."

Katie Talks Fashion, Marriage and Suri in New York Mag

Katie Holmes is on the cover of this week's New York Magazine chatting all about her Holmes and Yang clothing line ahead of the upcoming Fashion Week.

Katie Holmes is on the cover of this week's New York Magazine chatting all about her Holmes and Yang clothing line ahead of the upcoming Fashion Week. The working mum has been busy shooting The Kennedys, but she's also going into promotional mode as the release date for her The Romantics nears. Conversation touched on Katie's roles, but things progressed to talking about her well-dressed daughter Suri and life with Tom Cruise. Katie said:

  • On balancing her schedule with Tom's: "We have quite a schedule, you know? We don't say, 'When I'm working, you don't work,' or anything like that. Last year he was shooting Knight and Day and I was shooting The Romantics, and we'd just fly to see each other after we wrapped. And we homeschool Suri—she has a teacher who is with her every day. We like the one-on-one education. I'm happy that my daughter is strong-willed and determined. You really have to go with what the child is wanting."
  • On dealing with all the interest in their marriage: "It's there, it's one of those things. My big concern is what does he have going, what do I have going, what are we going to do this weekend. It must seem weird, I guess, having so many people watching. It is weird. I get it. But you just, you know, smile and nod."

The mother-daughter duo have been spending the Summer in Canada while Katie films The Kennedys, though having most weekends off has meant many quick visits home to California. Katie will also make the trip to NYC next month to promote The Romantics and probably attend some Fashion Week-related events as half of the Holmes & Yang design team.

Katie Holmes to Step Into Jackie Kennedy's Shoes

Sounds to me like Joey Potter is throwing her hat into the ring for an Emmy!

Sounds to me like Joey Potter is throwing her hat into the ring for an Emmy! Katie Holmes has just signed on to portray Jackie Kennedy for a History Channel mini series titled The Kennedys, set to air in the US (and fingers crossed Australia) next year. Greg Kinnear will co-star as JFK. While Holmes seems to have the former American first lady's grace and general soft-spokenness, I have to admit that I'm more sold on Rachel Weisz as Jackie O. How about you?
