Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman Reunite in the Trailer For Thor: The Dark World

Iron Man's not the only Avenger who's coming back to cinemas this year - Thor (Chris Hemsworth) returns to the big screen in October, and he's got quite a lot on his plate. His first priority is coming back to Earth for Jane (Natalie Portman), his girlfriend, whom he plucks out of London right in the middle of a science experiment. Odin isn't exactly safe for a human, though, because there's a new bad guy in town named Malekith who has an entire army of Dark Elves. So whom does Thor turn to? Why, his deranged brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who is now locked up (and hasn't seemed to have washed his hair).

I loved the lighter, sillier tone of the original Thor movie (compared to, say, Captain America), but the trailer isn't exactly packed with jokes - though I guess that's to be expected when the word "dark" is right there in the title. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what develops in Thor's action-packed next chapter come Oct. 31. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Skyfall Wins Big at the Jameson Empire Awards in London

The Jameson Empire Awards were held in London last night and some of the UK’s brightest film stars were on hand for the big event. The big winner was Skyfall, which picked up best film, best director for Sam Mendes, and a special Empire Inspiration award. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey picked up best sci-fi/fantasy film and best actor for its lead Martin Freeman, while an absent Jennifer Lawrence was honoured with best actress for her work in The Hunger Games.

Helen Mirren’s contribution to film was acknowledged when she was dubbed an Empire Legend. Newcomers Tom Holland from The Impossible and Samantha Barks from Les Misérables were also handed statuettes, and Daniel Radcliffe won an Empire Hero award. Elle Fanning Goes Pink to Watch Jude Law Win at the BIFAs

Brits and non-Brits alike were out at the British Independent Film Awards in London on Sunday night. Anna Karenina star Jude Law took home the Variety Award while the drama Broken took home the top prize of best British independent film. Andrea Riseborough, who was spotted sharing a laugh with The Avengers star Tom Hiddleston, won the Best Actress award for her role in Shadow Dancer.

Felicity Jones, Tom Felton, Elle Fanning and Aussie rising star Alice Englert were also on hand at the award show. Elle stole the show in a princess-like pink Oscar de la Renta gown, which was fitting for her latest role. She recently wrapped filming Disney's Maleficent, in which she plays Princess Aurora. The movie pits Elle against Angelina Jolie, who plays the villain Maleficent. Elle told us last month that she was completely starstruck by Angelina when she first met her, even silently freaking out when the A-list mum so much as touched her.

The Avengers Take Europe as They Look Forward to a Super Opening Weekend

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo were at Rome's De Russie Hotel on Saturday for a stop on The Avengers press tour before the guys headed to Germany, sans Scarlett, for yet another photo call yesterday. The foursome travelled abroad to promote the superhero movie all last week, kicking things off with an appearance in Moscow before moving onto London and then Italy together. The Marvel movie is expected to enjoy a big debut at the box office. Early reviews for The Avengers have been overwhelmingly positive and the movie is estimated to earn as much as The Dark Knight and The Hunger Games each did in their opening weekends. That could easily make The Avengers the biggest first-weekend earner among superhero movies to date. It opens in Australia on April 25.

The Avengers Bring Their Superpowers to London

Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the all-star Avengers cast stepped out in London last night for the UK premiere. The actors are making their way around the globe prior to the May 4 US release of the action adventure (it opens in Australia on April 25). It was a special evening for dad-to-be Chris Hemsworth, who was joined by his Hoss Intropia-clad wife Elsa Pataky. The couple are expecting their first child in the coming months, though they've decided to keep the baby's gender a secret. Robert might be able to give Chris some parenting tips - RDJ and his wife Susan welcomed son Exton in February.

Scarlett opted to break away from the sexy LBDs she's been wearing and instead chose a floral embroidered Prada frock. Scarlett was the only female cast member to make the trek to Moscow for the Avengers screening, but last night she was joined by her partner in fighting crime, Cobie Smulders. Cobie dazzled in a formfitted floor-length Alexandra Vidal red gown.

The world premiere of The Avengers was held in LA today and lots of the movie’s big names turned out for the red carpet. Leading lady Scarlett Johansson stole the show in her black Versace dress, but her co-stars suited up handsomely as well. Chris Hemsworth slicked back his long blonde hair and fooled around with his Mjölnir (Thor’s hammer) with some journalists. Robert Downey Jr. wore a purple suit and was accompanied by his wife, Susan, who recently gave birth to their first son together. The film’s villain, Tom Hiddleston, wore a grey suit to the event like Jeremy Renner, who plays archer Hawkeye - Jeremy told media that his character would beat The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen in an archery-off! Also walking the red carpet were Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and comic book icon Stan Lee.

Michael Fassbender Joins Up With Thor's Chris and Olivia at London's Empire Awards

Sunday night's 2012 Empire Awards in London brought out a range of good-looking, foreign men. Michael Fassbender picked up the best hero statue and posed for photos solo afterward. It was a guys-only night for the actor - Michael was without girlfriend Nicole Beharie, who was his co-star in Shame. Michael's X-Men co-star James McAvoy was also without the leading lady in his life, wife Anne-Marie Duff. James stopped to smile for a picture, though, with Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt. Other honourees included best actor Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, best male newcomer Tom Hiddleston, and best sci-fi/fantasy Thor. The latter film's star Chris Hemsworth was on hand for the show, as was his co-star Olivia Wilde. Chace Crawford suited up to join in on the fun as well.

Mulberry brought together some acclaimed actresses and the music star everyone’s talking about for the front row of their Where the Wild Things Are-inspired Autumn/Winter 2012 show. Michelle Williams and Elizabeth Olsen were seated side-by-side for the show yesterday, while Mulberry’s new muse Lana Del Rey - she was holding the new bag that’s been named after her - posed for photos with Pixie Geldof. UK stars Tom Hiddleton and Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery and Laura Carmichael were also spotted taking in all the Mulberry action. After checking out what creative director Emma Hill sent down the runway, the group reconvened for a special dinner at the Savile Club, where Lana performed.
