Pucker Up! The Year in Movie Kisses

Ah, Hollywood romances. Not the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt kind, but the ones that light up our cinema screens.
Best Movie Kisses of 2010 2010-12-27 17:00:00

Ah, Hollywood romances. Not the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt kind, but the ones that light up our cinema screens. All movies have their fair share of smoochy moments, but we still have some faves, whether it's because there's actual meaning behind the kiss (we won't get too deep!) or because we happen to love the characters. Several actors got it on for the cameras this year, from Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I to Robert Pattinson in Eclipse and Remember Me (that guy gets around!). Check out this list of the memorable tender moments that sent our hearts racing.

Drew Barrymore works a sultry stare on the October cover of Harper's Bazaar. Under Drew's creative direction, the magazine took a trip back in time to the '60s, her favourite era, shooting her in vintage couture gowns from designers like Givenchy, Chanel, Valentino and Dior. The Going the Distance star just wrapped her promotional tour for the film, and now she's sharing more about her relationship with co-star Justin Long, growing up in the spotlight, her newfound independence and her body image. Drew said:

  • On describing herself: "Not ambitious, arrogant, or cold. Lazy? No, I'm not lazy enough. Dominant—more so than people would think. I'm a total control freak and love to participate in the design of every single aspect of life."
  • On her co-star Justin Long: "He's the cat's pajamas, I couldn't love, respect, admire and enjoy that individual more than I do. It would be physically impossible for me to have any more giggly joy at this person."
  • On her body image: "I feel like some of my baby fat is going away, and that's not just physically, it's psychologically. I think that your body is in tune with your mind and your spirituality and your heart. If things are going better, I just think you look better."

Going the Distance: A Romantic Comedy You Can Relate To

Ah, the long distance relationship.

Ah, the long distance relationship. Whether you've been in one yourself or stood witness to those that have, you're familiar with what that term entails, and more often than not, the results ain't pretty. But can a long distance relationship be funny? Going the Distance proves it can be — at least if you're on the outside of the separated couple. The couple in question is Garrett (Justin Long) and Erin (Drew Barrymore). Brought together by a mutual love of the arcade game Centipede, driven apart by the end of her Summer internship, Garrett and Erin decide they can't just let go after six weeks. Thus begins an experiment in 21st century long distance dating: many hours of excessive texting, phone sex, and Skype. Though the latest technology helps bridge the gap between New York and San Francisco, it's not a substitute for human interaction. Despite their strong chemistry, Garrett and Erin can't avoid the standard issues: stress, jealousy, and frustration of all kinds. So where do the laughs come in? To find out, just keep reading.

Pop Poll: Going the Distance—See it or Skip it?

I've had a lot of time over the years to ruminate on what makes a good romantic comedy and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the trailer for Drew Barrymore and Justin Long's Going the Distance, which opens in cinemas this weekend, has many of those elements.

I've had a lot of time over the years to ruminate on what makes a good romantic comedy and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the trailer for Drew Barrymore and Justin Long's Going the Distance, which opens in cinemas this weekend, has many of those elements. First of all, there's clear chemistry between the leads (no doubt due in part to Barrymore and Long's real-life relationship). They play Erin and Garrett, a brand-new couple who are about to test the waters with a long-distance relationship after only six weeks of dating.

Secondly, the movie's got a solid supporting cast. Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis play Garrett's mates, while Christina Applegate is on board as Erin's sister. And for the clincher: the trailer actually made me giggle. I know, crazy right? I doubt this is the kinda movie that will change the face of film romance as we know it, but it sure makes for a nice surprise. Check out the trailer and let me know—will you see it or skip it?
