When we got to to see the first trailer for the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, On Stranger Tides, it felt like there was a little bit of the franchise's magic missing. Now we have trailer number two, and it's a bit more exciting than the first. As expected, it has more of Johnny Depp's one-liners as Captain Jack Sparrow, along with some sexy sparring with co-star Penélope Cruz. More importantly, we also get to see a bit more of the mermaid factor, and why they're such a big part of this sequel. One is needed to help the Captain Jack and his rival Blackbeard (Ian McShane) to get to The Fountain of Youth - the thin but interesting objective of the movie. Watch this new trailer and see if gets you any more excited for the latest Pirates installment when you read more.

Happy 34th Birthday, New Dad Orlando Bloom!

There’s no denying that Orlando Bloom has had a pretty amazing start to 2011. His model wife Miranda Kerr gave birth to their first child - a big, healthy boy - last week! But that’s not all he has to celebrate: he also turns 34 today! Johnny Talks to Vanity Fair About The Tourist and Angelina Jolie

Johnny Depp was interviewed by his friend and collaborator Patti Smith for the January 2011 issue of Vanity Fair. The actor spent much of the year filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, but is now busy promoting The Tourist. He opened up to Patti about starring alongside Angelina Jolie in the thriller, revealing that they avoided chatting in public during the shoot to avoid any misconceptions about their relationship. Johnny and Angelina play characters who strike up an unlikely romance in the steamy film, and he says that playing buttoned-down mathematician Frank was intriguing because of how oddly normal the character actually is. Here's more:

On working with Angelina: “Meeting her and getting to know her was a real pleasant surprise. You don’t know what she might be like-if she has any sense of humour at all. I was so pleased to find that she is incredibly normal, and has a wonderfully kind of dark, perverse sense of humour...I’ve had the honour and the pleasure and gift of having known Elizabeth Taylor for a number of years. You know, you sit down with her, she slings hash, she sits there and cusses like a sailor, and she’s hilarious. Angie’s got the same kind of thing, you know, the same approach.”
On his character in The Tourist: "I was always fascinated by people who are considered completely normal, because I find them the weirdest of all.”
On becoming an actor: “Going into acting was an odd deviation from a particular road that I was on in my late teens, early 20s, because I had no desire, no interest, really, in it at all. I was a musician and I was a guitarist, and that’s what I wanted to do.”
On the role he still wants to play: "[Marlon Brando said,] Why don’t you just take a year and go and study Shakespeare, or go and study Hamlet. Go and work on Hamlet and play that part. Play that part before you’re too old…. So what he was trying to tell me was: play that f*cking part, man. Play that part before you’re too long in the tooth. Play it. And I would like to. I’d really, really like to.”

Disney's Comic-Con panel wasn't just about Tron: Legacy. We also got a taste of what's to come in the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. In a cute teaser, Johnny Depp gives us a little pep talk in his full Jack Sparrow glory, promising "zombies, cutthroats, mermaids, and Penelope Cruz." It turns into a rant about Bloody Marys, but it's cute enough to give me hope that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides could help me forget about At World's End. Watch it after the jump!

Aussie Gemma Ward Cast in New Pirates of the Caribbean

Australian model-turned-actress Gemma Ward has signed on for a role in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The newest instalment in the blockbuster franchise starts filming in Hawaii this week. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have jumped ship this time around, but Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush are still on board. Gemma will play a mermaid and has a small speaking part. She doesn’t shoot her scenes until August, but she’s spent the last year studying acting full-time in New York. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled to be released next May in time for the US Summer blockbuster season.

Imagine the horror in Hollywood when Rob Marshall, the director of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides, sent a callout to casting agents requesting actresses with real assets. Surgically-enhanced need not apply. If it wasn't for all the Botox, they'd be wrinkled brows and horrified looks aplenty, I'd imagine. But the director is after some real womanly curves to set his ship assail and it's all for audience benefit apparently (boys, do you agree?). They'll be a show and tell testing day just in case any silicone manages to slip through, but if you're all natural and match this description, then go for your life: "Beautiful female fit models. Must be 5ft 7in-5ft 8in, size 4 or 6, no bigger or smaller. Age 18-25. Must have a lean dancer body. Must have real breasts. Do not submit if you have implants." To think I'm one just inch away from my Hollywood dream. Sigh. What do you think, do you wish more directors would specify such things or is cosmetic surgery just part and parcel of everyday life?

Johnny Depp to Shine a Light on Keith Richards

Ready to get a full rundown on the life of Keith Richards? Variety has confirmed the rumour that Johnny Depp will be directing a documentary about the Rolling Stones guitarist.
Richards would be intriguing source material (remember when he joked about snorting his dad?), but it's even more interesting because Depp is behind the camera. It's well known that Richards is the inspiration behind Depp's famous Pirates of the Caribbean character (Richards even made a cameo in the last installment of the franchise). This isn't the first time Depp has directed-in 1997, he helmed The Brave-nor is it his first time directing a doc about a musician: he made a short documentary about John Frusciante, the former guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, in 1993. I'm very curious about the results of Depp and Richards collaboration, though; what about you? Are you excited about this project?
