Sofia Richie's Fiancé, Elliot Grainge, Is Music-Industry Royalty
Sofia Richie sent social media into a frenzy on April 20 when she announced that she and her boyfriend of a year, Elliot Grainge, are engaged. The model and fashion designer very publicly dated Scott Disick off and on for years, before finally splitting with him for good in late 2020. A few months later, she quietly started dating Grainge, and they’ve been together ever since.
But now that the two are engaged, the people want to know: who is Elliot Grainge? While his romance with Richie has been much more low-key than her relationship with Disick, Grainge is no stranger to the spotlight. Grainge is the founder of Los Angeles-based record label 10K Projects, which is home to artists like Between Friends, Iann Dior, Peach Tree Rascals, Trippie Redd, and Surfaces. His work at the label landed him a spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2021. Forbes noted that 10K Projects had “18 gold and eight platinum/multi-platinum singles that have accumulated a total of 22 billion streams.”
Grainge’s success in the music industry really isn’t a surprise: his dad, Sir Lucian Grainge, is the chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, one of the largest companies in the music world, and has worked with artists like ABBA, JAY-Z, Elton John, Katy Perry, Queen, and Rihanna. Grainge, who is British and moved stateside just over a decade ago, grew up immersed in music. He told Variety in 2019 that he learned a lot from his dad, especially when it comes to signing artists and making deals, but ultimately wanted to go the indie route when he entered the music industry himself. “What I noticed about my father’s negotiating style was how transparent, honest, and sensible he was,” he said. “When you put your cards on the table like that, negotiating is less competitive and more about teamwork. … How can we get this done together, so that everybody is happy?”
10K Projects seems to continually be growing, and while Grainge told Variety that he’s content in the indie scene, he hasn’t written off something larger, like a role at UMG. We’ll just have to wait and see. At the very least, there’s a wedding in his future.
