Britney Spears

There has been some serious hype surrounding Britney Spears of late, particularly the documentary Framing Britney Spears, which premiered in the US on February 5.

Centred around the now 39-year-old pop star, it specifically focuses on Britney’s ongoing conservatorship battle with her dad, Jamie Spears, and up until now, it has only been released in the US.

On March 2, Australian audiences will be able to watch the factually based programme exclusively on Channel Nine and their streaming service, 9Now.

Airing at 9pm, the show will detail Spears’ meteoric rise to fame before mental health battles, a toxic relationship with the media and exploitation by those closest to her torpedoed her superstar status.

The documentary examines claims that Britney is mentally unwell and an unfit mother and will also look at the genesis of the #FreeBritney movement started by her fans which continues to gather momentum as they raise support about her plight and her fight for freedom.

The role of the media, including the paparazzi (think the shaved head moment and umbrella car smash) will be looked at in detail, and the relentless intrusion into Spears’ life.

The documentary, which prompted an apology from Spears’ ex, Justin Timberlake, features accounts from a longtime family friend, music executives, New York Times critics, magazine editors and other commentators.

Watch Framing Britney Spears on Channel Nine and 9Now on March 2 at 9 pm.
