As we near the commencement of Afterpay Australia Fashion Week, which kicks off in Sydney on May 31, experts are beginning to reveal their trend forecasts for the runways. From hair to makeup and nail trends (and the clothes, of course!), it’s always exciting to see what designers are leaning into come Fashion Week.

With one show already ticked off the itinerary, the Aje resort 2022 collection foreshadowed an emphasis on natural beauty with dewy skin, subtle makeup and undone hair letting the bold, bright clothing do the talking on the runway.

While we still have to wait a while before we see the beauty looks come to life on the catwalk, Revlon Professional National Artistic Ambassador, Uros Mikic, has used his industry knowledge to collate his predictions of what we might be able to expect when it comes to hair trends at this year’s Fashion Week.

Mikic expects these trends to filter down into mainstream beauty looks over the coming months, which means you might be making the chop very soon given the new boyfriend bob, pixie cuts and bangs are all firmly on the menu this Fashion Week. Natural curls will also dominate, as will strong colours, says Mikic Here are some of his predictions which you might be rocking in months to come…

Cut

Prepare to see statement cuts at Fashion Week this year, with chopped styles and natural, undone locks the way forward. “Natural curls and waves make such a strong trend this year, we are also seeing some serious chops, after lockdowns people are eager for new looks, big statements and bobs — the new boyfriend bob, pixie cuts and bangs are on the menu,” Mikic said.

“I guess we’d see more of these cuts on the runway for numerous shows — they are super chic, versatile style that surely will elevate the overall look!” According to Mikic, the following styles will be making waves in months to come:

  • Curls are in — Beautiful curly cuts that add a curly bang to round up the look are going to be the hit this season.
  • Modern shag — We have been seeing our clients opt for this cool, rock chic style.
  • Boyfriend bob — A cool textured bob, the messy, natural-looking shaggy bob.
  • The always impressive pixie cut — opt for a softer flirty short cut, not so much edgy like we’re used to seeing.
  • The bangs are back — Curly, ’70s style inspired bangs, bangs paired with wavy styles are all a must-have.

Colours

Bold colours are in this year, with people taking more chances with their hair colour. “Vivid and solid block colours are in — think bold reds, cherry red, deep violets, and bold deep browns (Revlon Professional NC Filters do wonders in keeping these bold bright colours vibrant and long-lasting),” Mikic said. “I can envision lots of brave moves, bold colours on the runway, literally ‘Hair Colour is a Fashion Statement!'”

Styling

Undone, natural waves will dominate the catwalk this Fashion Week. “Natural, wavy, textured, loaded with sea spray and bandanas are look of the season,” said Mikic. “Curls naturally styled, backed up by good quality cuts to bring out the volume and natural curl. Shoulder-length cuts that are easily styled into these natural textures. These natural-looking styles demonstrate effortless looks that are perfect for some sort of bohemian, rocker as well as luxe fashion look!”
