RAFW 2010: Silver, Slick and Shiny at Friedrich Gray
When we caught up with MAC Makeup Director Natasha Severino backstage at Friedrich Gray, it was clear to see that a statement eye was the focus of the look. Drawing inspiration from the "architectural nature" of the clothing and the colours used throughout the collection—white, grey and black—Natasha painted models eyes with MAC Platinum Pigment which she applied wet. There was almost a backwards feel to it, instead of extending the colour out towards the temple, Natasha took the metallic silver from the centre of the lid, along in a straight line, until it was level with the tear duct. Natasha was quick to warn that this look only works with metallic shades, try the same thing with a matte hue and the eyes will close in on themselves. Lashes were left bare, lips were erased, so save for a little contouring, the eyes had it. Tip: If you love this look but don't want to brave the out-there application, Natasha recommends a winged flick of liquid liner.
In-keeping with the futuristic feel, Jon Pulitano who directed the hair for Cloud Nine, worked oodles of gel into the hair (literally, I saw handfuls going in and then being combed through) before creating an exaggerated side-part and securing hair at the nape of the neck. It was all kind of slick and fembot-y.
