Beauty Tips: Makeup Artist Brett Freedman Shares His Advice on Wearing Gold Eyeliner
How-To: Wear Gold Eyeliner With the Midas Touch
With gold popping up on the Spring '11 runways at Donna Karan (pictured), Rodarte, Badgley Mischka, Mark Fast and more, we've enlisted the help of celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman (who has worked with Vanessa Hudgens and Jessica Biel) to help turn this runway look into a reality . . .
LOOK 1: For this look, Brett suggests starting out by applying a taupe shadow on your lids and creases. "That way, you have this matte anchor," he explains. Try Maybelline NY Eye Studio Eyeshadow Mono in Silken Taupe ($12.95). Next, use a glittery gold liquid liner, like Too Faced Gold Digger Starry Eyed Liner ($34.95), applying it very close to the lash lines. Finish off by curling the lashes, adding some mascara, and tying it all together with a swipe of the taupe shadow on the lower lash lines, meeting it up to the outer creases.

"Then, take a tiny brush and wet it and swirl it around in that gold shadow [we love Chanel Ombre Essentielle Eyeshadow in Gold ($44)] and use it as a liner," Brett says. He recommends getting really close to the lash line and swiping the colour from the tear duct all the way to the end of the eye. "You don't have to be really exacting with a tiny brush," he explains. Once the colour sets, it's easy to blend. And remember, when it comes to gold, the colour should create a bit of depth and shimmer. Therefore, keep it on either the lash lines or on the lids, and not on the brow bones.
