Botox Backlash: It GIVES You Wrinkles

Uh-oh, we're in trouble. Something's come along and it's burst our (Botox) bubble. Yeah, yeah. Experts, one in particular, are now saying that Botox can in fact give you wrinkles. According to the Daily Mail, Dr David Becker, Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, wrote in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology that "Paralysis of a set of muscles might lead to recruitment of other muscle groups in an attempt to reproduce the conditioned activity being blocked, resulting in more prominent muscle activity in adjacent regions," which basically means, areas of the face that haven't been treated with Botox are working twice as hard to replicate facial movements that have, in essence, been 'frozen,' therefore increasing the likelihood of wrinkles cropping up in those areas, like the bridge of the nose. Its seems you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Ironic, huh?

I'm quilty of so called vanity, i love my feminine goodies and wouldn't give them up for anything! Women wanting to make the most of their looks has been going on forever, we are just embracing new technologies after all we are living longer and those wrinkles just keep on coming!!!

I know, it would be good for everyone to embrace the ageing process naturally, but then those sitting on the Botox side on the fence could probably argue that being 'fully' natural means no straightener, no mascara . . . no razor. All of which I'm NOT willing to give up. It's definitely a tricky one, isn't it. xx

I remember reading once that botox can cause hypertension and heart problems down the track, but those problems don't immediately take place after a botox injection so they're presumed to be caused by stress and other factors. I'd love to think that at some stage we can embrace who we are and what we look like, but as long as people are judging and we're vain that's not going to happen. I think that's the price of using botox, much like possible folicle damage is the price of using a dryer and straightener.
