Can I Use Shower Gel, Soap, Shampoo to Shave?

This Efficient Shaving Habit Is Actually a Big No-No, According to 1 Expert

Shaving is one of those beauty chores that somehow always ends up being the last thing on your list no matter how much you try to prioritise it. Because so many of us make shaving the very last of our beauty list, we rarely ever do it right. OK, so everyone has their own idea of what the "right" way to shave is, but according to dermatologist and Venus ambassador Dr. Anita Sturnham, there's definitely a wrong way to do it, and most people who shave in the shower are guilty of it.

Shaving while you're soaped up with shower gel, conditioner, or shampoo might be a time-saving trick of shower efficiency, but if this expert is to be believed, it's a bad habit you need to stop immediately because, put simply, "shampoos, conditioners, and soaps are not designed for shaving." The reasoning behind this being that "shaving has a naturally exfoliating mechanism of action, so you need to use products that are designed to work in synergy with your razor and improve glide, reduce friction, and the risk of irritation and cuts." She explained, "These formulations will coat the hairs, making them thicker and more difficult to shave."

Not only do non-shaving-approved products make your body hair less cooperative, but they "can also blunt your razor." Dr. Anita said they will "clog your razors, which can ultimately mean using your razor more often for results that aren't as smooth," making shaving an even bigger chore than it already is.
