Ask the Kardashians, Olivia Culpo, Chrissy Teigen, Kerry Washington, Shay Mitchell — even our very own Delta Goodrem — and they'll tell you Justine Marjan is one very cool hairstylist. Not only does she create the beachy waves of your dreams for your favourite famous faces, she's the global stylist for TRESemme (huge gig!) and also the editorial director of Mane Addicts — to the hair obsessed, we trust you're familiar with this URL. So when we were granted access to the beauty powerhouse we couldn't help but throw down the quick-fire questions we've always wanted to ask a stylist who spends her days playing with the hair of the world's most influential celebs.
POPSUGAR Australia: What is your favourite hairstyle to create on your clients?
Justine Marjan: Ponytails!
PS: Out of all your celeb clients, who is the most daring when it comes to hair looks?
JM: Olivia Culpo and Dorit Kemsley.
PS: What's your go-to hairstyle?
JM: Effortless waves or stick straight.
PS: Hair extensions or au naturel?
JM: Au naturel for me but extensions for everyone else, lol!
PS: The hair product you can't live without?
PS: Which hair trend would you like to see die in 2017?
JM: Nothing! I can't think of anything I hate.
PS: What is your favourite hair trend of 2017?
JM: Short hair and hair accessories!
PS: The hairstyle you live to regret?
JM: I used to let my friends cut my hair in high school and one of my guy friends told me he thought I should have short hair. So we put my hair in a ponytail and just cut the ponytail off. It was actually cute in the front, but I walked around for days with it looking crazy in the back before anyone ever told me!
PS: The one thing you'd never do to your hair?
JM: Shave it! I shaved one side in my early twenties and it took forever to grow out!
PS: The one thing you'd love to do to your hair?
JM: Get extensions, but I'm so low maintenance with my own hair and already have TONS of hair that it would be too much.
PS: What do you love the most about your job?
JM: Getting the opportunity to be around such influential and inspiring woman and making an impact on their lives. I love getting to make someone feel good about themselves and see them project themselves confidently.
PS: What's the one thing you would change about your job?
JM: I wish people were less competitive and more supportive! We have such a fun job and there's so much work to go around. I want to rise up with my peers.
PS: Tell us the best advice you've ever received?
JM: Fear is never a good enough reason not to do something. A yoga teacher told me that when I was struggling to decide whether I should move to LA. It really resonated with me and I decided to take the jump. I couldn't have made a better decision in my life. Jen Atkin also told me not to be jealous of my peers, but be inspired by them. I love that! Jealousy is such a useless emotion, but inspiration fuels everything.
PS: What life advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
JM: Don't be afraid to take risks and go after your dreams. Change the way you're thinking and take the time to work on yourself, everything else will follow.
PS: What's something not many people know about you?
JM: I love to cook! I used to have a cooking/healthy lifestyle blog where I would post health tips and recipes.
