Real Girl Hair: I Went From Long to Bob in One Chop
It all started with this post we did about cuts above the shoulders, and the slew of celebs chopping off their hair for the new year. We're massive fans of the bob here at POPSUGAR Australia and we've all been fantasising about going for the chop ourselves — but Rae, our commercial editor, was the one who bit the bullet. A big beauty change is something that tends to pick up momentum in December and January. Not only is it the height of Summer, but it's the beginning of a new year, and fresh starts go hand-in-hand with new beauty looks.
"It had been almost ten years since I'd had a drastic change, and I think the summer heat and the flood of posts on the site about people getting the chop inspired me," Rae said. Not just content with chopping off the length, Rae went one step further; she donated the hair to the Beautiful Lengths program. This project takes hair donations and makes wigs for women undergoing treatment for cancer. "Being able to donate my hair to make wigs for those in need was a great motivator as well. I'm happy my locks will be going to a good home!"
After making the decision, and printing out her bob inspiration pics, Rae made a snap-decision appointment at Stevie English Hair in Glebe for lunchtime the next day. Jade, her stylist, went for a crop with subtle layers at the bottom for nice, natural movement that encourages her natural waves. Cutting it with a centre part made the style really even, and it gives Rae the flexibility to flip it either side — hello Lara Bingle's bob style perfection.
So if you're thinking about the chop, or you want to see what a big change the length of your hair can make, take a look at the before, during and after photos. I think you'll agree she looks great — fresh, cute and ready to take on the new year!
