I remember the day well. I was one day shy of turning 18 and decided to visit a well-known salon chain for a "trim." Alas, I got more than I bargained for (I wasn't too far off Agyness Deyn's latest look) and cried before I'd even left the salon. I didn't leave the house on my birthday. Sadly, it wasn't the first time that I'd cried after a cut — that honour goes to a too-tight French plait when I was four — and it wouldn't be the last. And it seems I'm not alone. ShopSmart magazine recently conducted a national telephone poll about hair; interestingly, of the 1,031 women polled, 25 percent admitted to crying after getting a haircut. How many times have you cried after visiting the salon?
