Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm For Lips

I Use Nipple Balm on My Lips — and Here's Why You Need It Too

My mum recently (and casually) handed me a tube of nipple balm that is hailed to be a wonder product for lips. We both giggled, like the mature mother/daughter duo we are. I was admittedly a little grossed out by the idea and wasn't sure what to expect from the balm. But much to my surprise, it's amazing.

During Spring, I get awful cracked, dry lips, and I've tried everything to help keep them soft and flake-free. While I still love my go-to products, Avene Cold Cream For Lips ($23.99) and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant ($28), I'm always on the lookout for new products to help out my pout.

Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm For Lips ($22) is the newest product to join my big lip care stash, and I've used it every night since reluctantly trying it. Mama is always right, people.

The balm is made from 100 percent lanolin, an ingredient that is excreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep to protect their skin and wool. Unsurprisingly, it often divides people, making it the Marmite of lip moisturisers! Much like coconut oil, it works great for some and others don't get on with it at all. Judging by the product reviews, people are pretty blown away by this particular balm. It's free from parabens, fragrances, sulphates, mineral oil, petrolatum, colouring agents, T.E.A., D.E.A., and silicone. The balm is tasteless and odourless, perfect for all those who hate synthetic-smelling lip products. A makeup artist left a review saying the balm is the "best lip balm ever" and is "instant magic for dry lips," and another reviewer said the balm "saved" them whilst taking Accutane.

I like to use the balm at night as it does have a sticky texture, but at the end of the day, I feel like that's exactly what my lips need. The heavy texture leaves lips feeling smooth for hours and almost gives them a protective barrier. The balm is a little on the expensive side, but once you wake up with silky-smooth lips, you'll be hooked. A little goes a long way with this handbag essential, so you'll want to pack it now to keep all your dry bits flake-free.
