Drinking Champagne is Good For Your Health

Champagne is Good For the Heart: Let's Drink to That!

They couldn't have timed it better if they'd tried. Researchers at the UK's University of Reading have found that drinking two glasses of champers a day may be good for the heart and circulation as it improves blood vessel function.

The science behind it goes a little something like this: Champagne increases the availability of nitric oxide; high levels of this increases blood flow and may help to decrease blood pressure and the chance of a blood clot.

Dr Jeremy Spencer, from the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, said: "Our research has shown that drinking around two glasses of Champagne can have beneficial effects on the way blood vessels function, in a similar way to that observed with red wine. We always encourage a responsible approach to alcohol consumption, but the fact that drinking Champagne has the potential to reduce the risks of suffering from cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke, is very exciting news." Very exciting indeed Jeremy.
