French Beauty Baron Yves Rocher Dies

Yves Rocher, known for his line of botanically based beauty products, died of a stroke on Saturday. Rocher founded his company 50 years ago, creating a line of plant-based skin care that has since expanded to encompass makeup and hair care. (An underpublicised bonus: most products are vegan.) A recipient of the prestigious Légion d'honneur award, Rocher also served as mayor of La Gacilly, Brittany, where the company has a botanical garden that's open to the public. Although the Yves Rocher brand was best known in France and Canada, it's maintained an understated but sizable following here in Australia as well. His grandson, Bris Rocher, will now take over the company as president.
