There are two VERY important events coming up. If you're in high school, we're of course talking about end-of-year socials and school formals. Only the hottest event on the extracurricular calendar. And, no matter how old you are, chances are you're starting to get excited about the other main event which kicks off next month: Summer!
Both are obviously about having fun and whether you're on the dance floor or at the beach, you want to look your best. And that's where a good skincare routine comes in. It doesn't matter what else you do — how glam your dress is, how much makeup you wear, how gorgeous your bikini is — your skin should be your key investment. It doesn't have to be timely and it certainly doesn't have to be exxy but I will say it until I'm blue in the face: if you employ a good skincare routine and stick to it, everything else magically falls into place. Your makeup goes on better. You feel happier. You exude more confidence.
Keep reading to find out what makes a great skincare routine . . .So what makes a great skincare routine?
Cleanser: It's important to use cleanser day and night and to make sure that it's tailored to your skin type. Typically foaming cleansers are best for those with oily skin, cream cleansers are great for dry skin and gel cleansers are ideal for those with sensitive skin.
Toner: A toner is especially great in Summer I find as it's not only refreshing, but it also removes any excess oil and helps to balance the skin.
Exfoliator: A facial scrub is an absolute must. Especially in the lead up to a big event. If you don't use one, layers of dead skin cells can build up on your skin and leave your complexion looking dull and lifeless. Exfoliators not only slough dead skin away, but they also help to prevent blackheads (CLEAN & CLEAR® Advantage Blackhead Clearing Scrub is especially effective, $10.99) and clear oil and impurities from the skin.
Moisturiser with SPF: Sunscreen is important all-year round but it's absolutely vital in the warmer months. Kill two birds with one stone on a daily basis and use a moisturiser that offers SPF protection. If you're heading to the beach be sure to apply SPF 30+ all over and don't use SPF at night as it can clog pores.
Things to keep on the side: A spot gel (to target and treat any pesky blemishes), some cleansing wipes (perfect if you've had a light night and want to cleanse and go!) and a face mask (to do about once a week, always after exfoliating, to boost the skin's hydration levels).
