UPDATED: The Full Chanel N°5 Campaign Featuring Gisele Bündchen
It's been 10 years since we saw Nicole Kidman in the last Chanel N°5 campaign written and directed by Baz Luhrmann, and now it's Gisele Bündchen's turn to take the spotlight as the new face of the brand's most iconic fragrance.
Gisele represents the modern woman, a woman with many responsibilities, this new campaign highlights the delicate balance between a woman's stolen moments alone and her family, her career and her romantic relationship. "The Chanel woman can be with herself on a beach, can be with her child, can have an aspirational and fulfilling career, and at the same time she can have a true relationship; she can have romance," says Baz. "And in the end, the Chanel woman chooses love." Baz explains he doesn't make ads, but creates a trailer to a film that hasn't been made. His unmistakable camerawork and style is evident in his love of baroque detailing and sweeping shots as Gisele drives across the bridge into New York. An almost totally unrecognisable rendition of Grease's "You're the One That I Want" is crooned seductively as the soundtrack to the visual feast that's void of speech, and lends itself to the trending hashtag #TheOneThatIWant.
The famous scent has been worn by celebrities and royalty alike since its first release in 1921, a cult perfume that, just like Coco Chanel's fashion house only seems to get better with age. Truly a breakthrough in its time Coco said, "A woman should wear perfume wherever she would like to be kissed." And so the furore around this fragrance was born.
There are arguably no other fragrances that have stood the test of time like Chanel N°5, the subtle changes to the bottle's design and communications behind the product keep it at a paradox of modernity and timelessness. Below we have the sneak peak at the new campaign featuring the Brazilian model and also a look back at what makes this perfume worthy of such a following.
