How-To: Taylor Swift's Makeup at the People's Choice Awards
While there were some notable hits and misses at yesterday's 2010 People's Choice Awards – Glee's Lea Michele and her ringlets got top marks from you, while Private Practice star Kate Walsh's look was a little OTT for most – one little lady got it so right on the night: Taylor Swift.
The loose tousled curls: love! The fab flutter: love! The rosy blush: love, love, LOVE! So here's a quick rundown on how to recreate the look at home, what products you'll need and a couple of tips and tricks to store under your belt.
Start by perfecting your base. You'll need a good primer – L’Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Professional Smoothing Resurfacing Primer ($39.95) has got the beauty world abuzz – and powder as Taylor's look is all about the matte, not dewy. Keep reading . . .
Now for the eyes. Start by blending a mushroom shade such as Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow Stay Matte in Sable ($33) over the whole lid, all the way up to the brow bone. Next up, apply a shimmering silver/white to the inner eye. Bobbi Brown Limited Edition Chrome Eye Shadow in Silver ($48) or Rimmel Colour Mousse Eye Shadow in Snow Queen ($13.95) are perfect. Then line the top, outer lash line with a liquid or gel formulation before finishing up with some false lashes. MAC ones are my favourite for a natural look; and remember this great bit of advice for an easy application.
Now for the all-important bit: the blush. Avoid cream blushes for this look, as it's all about a light and natural finish – very English rose. A tint such as Benefit Posietint ($53) is ideal, however if you're intent on a cream formulation, be sure to opt for a sheer one like Bobbi Brown Sheer Color Cheek Tint in Sheer Pink ($60). Bobbi Brown's right-hand man Sebastien Tardif taught me this little trick at the launch: If you're after the sheerest of sheer colour, apply a faint dot right on the apple of your check and blend; if you're after a bolder look draw a line of colour from the apple to your temple and blend. Voila, two looks, one product. And one very nice Taylor Swift look.
