We happen to have the mobile number of Jennifer Hawkins’ go-to hair stylist, Marie Uva and she was kind enough to tell us exactly how she created that full and fabulous blow-dry last night for the Myer Autumn Winter 2014 Fashion Launch.
Marie describes the look as being all about body. "I think everyone is over the girly waves so we went for a more sexy, bombshell look with volume,” she says.
Pre- show, Marie asked Jen to wash her hair and let it dry naturally — “in a perfect world, the day before,” — and to leave it bare, meaning no product afterwards, just a “nice shampoo and condition,” she says.
Want more? Here’s Marie’s step-by-step below:
1. Spray Kevin Murphy Anti Gravity Spray ($32.95) into dry hair and blow-dry in sections, starting from the nape of your neck, using a medium-sized round brush. Direct the brush upwards for maximum volume and continue until you get to the top of the head, wrapping the hair around the brush as you go for a bit of a kick at the ends.
2. Finish off by teasing at the crown and under the fringe and spray to set with Kevin Murphy Session Spray ($29.95). However, be careful not to put too much hairspray in the hair as the whole thing about this look is, it still needs to have movement.
If you're not great with a round brush or blow-drying your hair at home, stress less, Marie has a simple solution. “Flip your head upside down, spray the Anti-Gravity Spray and blow dry from there. Then take big sections of hair (mid lengths to ends only) around a big tong, (we’re talking a one and a half or two inch tong here) and create the bend and movement with that.” Just remember, “you are not using it to create a curl, you’re using it to create movement only.”
Marie's last tip? If you're thinking about trying Jen's fuss-free hairstyle this weekend, "keep on teasing it and adding the Anti-Gravity Spray to keep it full and fresh all night."
