How To Do a Half Moon Manicure: Tips From Fiona Hay
How-To: Ciara's BET Awards White and Gold Mani
I'm bored with nails right now. I'm over baby blue before it's even begun and Nouvelle Vague looks way better on Pop than me. I need something fun, I need something statement, I need something fabulous. And I think Ciara's ghetto gold and white mani might just be it. Because in case you hadn't noticed peeps, nail art, bling nails and bold looks are the way to be talon-tastic. Everyone who's anyone says so. So there. I got ORLY's RAFW Creative Director, Fiona Hay, to give us the lowdown on this look.
"This is a classic look from the 1940s/50s which is still gorgeous today, and being revamped by using different colours and textures that we have available now. In the '40s there was only red! If you're scared to try this look, start with the moon not too big, no more than 1/4 of the nail."
STEP 1: Start by manicuring nails into a longer oval shape and applying a base coat.
Keep reading . . . STEP 2: Choose your 'moon' colour and paint your nails 1/3 way up to centre, it's not necessary to paint the whole nail. To get Ciara’s look use ORLY Foil FX in Luxe or Glitz (which will be hitting stores later this year) and allow this to dry completely. For now, try Glam Rock ($18.95).
STEP 3: Then, to keep the moon perfect, a little trick you can use is to apply one of those ring binder stickers (to stop holes in paper tearing) and apply to the area you would like to remain gold. I like using these as they are nice and round in shape.
STEP 4: Paint your white polish over the edge of sticker up to the end of the nail. ORLY White Out ($18.95) is a great, crisp white that's nice and opaque.
STEP 5: Allow to dry before removing the sticker and finish with a top coat like ORLY Sec and Dry ($19.95).
