How To Do Perfectly Winged Eye Liner Like Rachel McAdams in InStyle Magazine
How-To: Perfectly Winged Eyes à la Rachel McAdams in InStyle
Rachel McAdams goes all ’60s bombshell in the latest issue of US InStyle. Apart from a heavily-teased bouffant, she’s wearing a fierce winged eye that’s been flicked to perfection. It’s a look that many struggle with — it requires precision and a steady hand! — but we consulted makeup artist Rae Morris’ new book Express Makeup for tips on how to create the perfect razor-sharp eye. The secret tool? Sticky tape . . . who knew!
Tip #1: Make sure your brows are groomed. With so much attention on your eyes, you gotta make sure EVERYTHING's in top condition!
Tip #2: Apply slightly tacky sticky tape under each eye as a guide for what your liner will follow. (Rae’s tip for making tape tacky is to “stick it to an item of clothing a few times so it loses some of its adhesiveness.”)
Tip #3: Apply black gel eyeliner along the tape in a thin line. Then line the inner rim of each eye with a kohl pencil. Add some tape across your eyelid and colour the space between the tape and your upper lash line with black eye gel. Where you place your tape depends on how thick you want the liner to be.
Tip #4: Make sure your lines at the top and bottom of your eye meet in the ‘flick’. If you still see any blanks, fill them in with eye gel! Finish off with lashings of black mascara.
