Just like the bubbly congratulatory beverage that it's named after, champagne hair colour is a good time. The pastel pink-blond hue will be a major trend for Spring, so we reached out to celebrity hairstylist Linet K to find out just how to pull off the trend.
When heading to the salon, keep in mind the strain you'll be putting your hair through if it isn't already platinum. "Clients should understand that it's a double process," she said. You'll need to lighten your hair either all over or add in highlights, ombré, or balayage, depending on where you'd like the colour to be most vivid. Ask your colourist to see the pink hues available so you don't end up with magenta when you wanted more of a blush.
If you're not already platinum, your stylist will have to lift your hair colour close to that shade. Linet says it should be pre-lightened to a level eight, nine, or 10. (For anyone unfamiliar, the higher the number, the lighter it is on the spectrum of bleach lightening.) Once the first process of lightening the hair has been completed, the second process of depositing the colour can start.
You and your stylist should collaborate to find the perfect shade of champagne for your complexion and tastes. You'll also have to make the decision about what kind of dye you want in your hair. "You can get a semipermanent colour that will last anywhere from four to eight weeks, or you can get a permanent shade that will remain until it is bleached or corrected out," Linet said.
Regardless of your skin tone, you can find a shade that works with your needs. Linet suggests going with a hue that matches your complexion. "A lighter or rosier champagne colour looks best on fair to medium skin tones, while deeper champagne tones look fantastic on darker skin tones."
