Lara Worthington's Colourist Reveals Her Exact Blonde
Hair colour magician Jaye Edwards, from Edwards & Co in Sydney and Melbourne, counts many influential Aussies as clients — including babin' bloggers Sara Donaldson and Brooke Testoni, actress Charlotte Best and, our personal blonde-spiration, model-mogul Lara Worthington. Since chopping her trademark flick into a pixie for Summer, Jaye has kept her colour fresh and ridiculously natural-looking. He explained Lara's latest colour was inspired by celebrity colour star Tracey Cunningham's 'root blondes', and said, "With short haircuts, it's important for the colour to not look 'top deck'."
"What we did was add highlights through the top section to brighten it up," said Jaye. "After the highlights were applied, I used hairspray to make the hair stand on end, then I painted the ends with lightener and let that process." This surprising colouring hack allows him to get a mixture of heights and depth to the blonde lightener, so the colour appears really blended and natural — so you see no start or stop in the colour.
Then comes the 'root blonde' part. Jaye explained, "Next step was to add depth back in at the base — this will allow for a no-regrowth colour, and adds depth and texture back into a short haircut — to eliminate the 'top deck' look." Read on for the exact formulation of colour Jaye used on Lara (the techy stuff) — you can take this directly to your colourist to get the same result! Natural-looking Summer blonde, here we come.
