The Shocking Effects of Sugar on Your Skin
Last week we were confronted by a skin truth that we knew about, but just didn't want to admit to: getting skin fit has just as much to do with your lifestyle and diet as it does your skincare products. There, we said it. We know that being healthy inside helps what we're seeing on the outside, but have you fully appreciated what that really means? We like to think that when we're browsing the skincare aisles in store, we find a product to address our concerns, we buy it, start using it and voilà! Problem solved. Right?
Wrong. We spoke to Jess Sepel a few months ago and got her secrets to how she grows such incredibly healthy hair and we were surprised to find it's much more than just her haircare product choices. So last week when we met up with Heather Vounnou, Ella Bachè National Training Manager, we got the (ugly) truth behind the effects of a bad diet on your skin.
Sugar has had a lot of bad press recently, and it's for good reason, it should be on your radar. Not just because it's so addictive and affecting your waistband, but because it's also affecting your skin. Heather says, "One thing to remember is that it's not just your obvious offenders, like macarons, it's anything that's high GI (Glycemic Index), you need to be aware of the effects of glycation of the skin."
Sounds like something that belongs in a science fair but it's happening in your skin every day. And it's not a good thing. Read on to find out exactly what glycation is, the negative effects it's having on your skin and how you can prevent it.
