How to Ensure Your Skin Stays Stress-Free Ahead of a Big Event Like the Melbourne Cup!

It's the Melbourne Cup tomorrow and, like any big event, we all want to look our best. So how can we ensure that our skin stays stress-free and remains on its best behaviour? By giving it some TLC tonight. Here's our guide for looking after your skin for the next 48 hours.

Monday, 6pm: Treat your skin to an early makeup removal. If you're just having a TV night in preparation for tomorrow there's no need to sit in your makeup all evening. Remove it with a rich, creamy cleanser such as Clinique Comforting Cream Cleanser ($38) or Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser ($13.99), and then follow with a scrub, mask and nourishing moisturiser. You won't believe how good your skin feels afterwards.

Monday, 8pm: Make sure you skip the vino this evening. It's always best to avoid alcohol the night before a big event as it tends to make the face puffy the next day. Instead have a nice bath, finishing off with a fast-absorbing body oil like Neutrogena's Sesame Formula ($12.99) or Antipodes Heavenly Body Oil ($49.99) to leave your limbs silky smooth.

Keep reading . . .Monday, 10pm: It's off to bed for you. Catch as many zzz's as possible tonight so that you look fresh and well-rested tomorrow morning.

Tuesday, 7am: Start the morning off with your usual cleanse, tone and moisturise routine but be sure there's lots of SPF in there, too. Both on your face and body. (Our go-to sunscreen is Ultra Sheer Body Mist SPF 30+, $18.99.) Remember if your dress has cut-out sections, it's best to apply SPF when you don't have any clothes on — that way you won't miss anywhere! Remember to pack your sunscreen in your bag — you'll need to reapply throughout the day. Every few hours if you're in direct sunlight.

Tuesday, 11pm: Chances are you'll be feeling a little tipsy right about now. But when you're home remember the golden rule: always remove your makeup and drink lots of water. Your skin will thank you for it the next day. Use cleansing wipes — they're quick and easy to use and most even take off waterproof mascara.

Wednesday, 7am: Yes, it really is that time already. Can we recommend lots of invigorating citrusy scents to wake you up? Oh and red lipstick works a treat to distract from tired eyes.
