You only have to look at the number of mascaras released each year to know that the lash industry is showing no signs of slowing down. Most recently eyelash extensions have been popular but there's a new trend taking over the lash world: semi-permanent mascara. Big in the US and about-to-be-big in the UK and here, a long-lasting flutter is set to be the must-have treatment ahead of Christmas parties. Find out more!
What is it? Designed to look just like mascara, semi-permanent mascara promises to add curl, length and volume to lashes.
What makes it different? Unlike regular mascara, you won't need to apply it every day. One round of semi-permanent mascara can last between four to five weeks. And unlike extensions, it isn't overly expensive with a top lash line of Mezmereyz Semi-Permanent Mascara costing approx $40 and top and bottom lashes costing approx $65.
Keep reading . . .Will it run? Nope. Semi-permanent mascara is weather-proof and smudge-proof making it perfect all-year round. You will need to avoid cleansing oils and heavy, oil-based eye creams as these can loosen the mascara and cause it to flake.
Will it look clumpy? The formula for Mezmereyz is pitched as non-clumpy but if you're after a less night-time glam look, be sure to ask for a natural look.
How long does the treatment take? About 30-40 minutes. That includes discussing the lash look that you're after and then having your lashes curled and the semi-permanent mascara applied.
How do you care for your lashes? Avoid perming and tinting your lashes. You'll need to wash the lashes with warm, soapy water, not an oil-based cleanser or makeup remover. And for the first 12 hours after application you're advised to avoid contact with water around the eye area.
Where can I get it done? Call 03 9816 4066 to locate your nearest Mezmereyz salon. Also keep your eye on the MYscara website as it will launch its semi-permanent mascara service later this year.
