In the Sugar Spotlight: NEUTROGENA® Oil-Free Acne Wash

The Sugar Spotlight are back this time reviewing the NEUTROGENA® Oil-Free Acne Wash, designed to address the underlying cause of breakouts. After just a few weeks of trialling, our review team came back with improved skin and agreed that at $13.99 it was a steal! In the Sugar Spotlight today is Victoria with her detailed review. Congrats, Victoria!

"Having used Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash for the past week, I was surprised to find it quite calming on my skin, having had previous qualms about most supermarket brands, this cleanser proved me wrong. Using the cleanser, I found I had to use a little extra product because of the thin consistency, however it sunk well into my skin and was both quick and easy to wash off. The result ended in my skin feeling clean, calm and refreshed. My pores also felt considerably tightened over the next few days. My skin did feel a little dry after each wash, though this was easily combated with moisturiser. All in all, my skin did improve, with less breakouts and less irritation." — Victoria

"The Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash was an excellent product for my skin type. Washing my face with it, it removed the oily surface feeling without drying out my skin, leaving my face feeling clean and refreshed. I also noticed that my skin felt much smoother — I will definitely be using this product again!" — Ellese

"I was delighted when frantic package ripping revealed Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash, as I was starting to develop one of the worst break-outs I've had in long time. Neutrogena went to work straight away, it's familiar gold gel removing every last bit of my make-up, leaving my oily skin feeling squeaky clean, without feeling dry and itchy. The smell is not heavy or harsh, but can only be described as 'clean', which I love. As for my breakout, it was a tough ask but performed admirably, slowly but surely clearing my poor face. I'd certainly fork out the reasonable $13.99 to buy again and recommend anyone else do the same!" — Briony

"I just wanted to write to say thank you! I have been using my free Neutrogena's Oil Free Acne Wash for the last two weeks and my skin looks and feels amazing. I turned 30 last month and sadly I still get acne. Since using Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash has cleared up and my pores have become smaller. Thank you again! I will be highly recommending this wonderful product to my friends." — Nikki

"I trialled Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash and here are the pros and cons. Pros: pleasant fragrance, only a small amount required, value for money, leaves skin feeling clean, remarkable improvement in my complexion and I will definitely be incorporating this face wash in my daily routine. Cons: it made my skin feel a little too dry at times; as such you need to use a good moisturiser to use afterwards." — Lynda

"I have combination to oily skin and suffer from the occasional breakout around my t-zone and jawline, so I was really keen to try the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. I’m a fan of foaming cleansers so I like that it builds into a lather and my skin felt squeaky clean after I’d rinsed it off. It did, however, feel a little tight and drying, but once I’d followed it with moisturiser it was fine. As for the results, it definitely dried out my spots and controlled the oiliness of my skin – such a win, as I hate looking like an oil slick! It’s a product I’ll keep using in my skincare routine as so far, I like what I’m seeing. — Sammi

"I have combination skin but do break out in acne across my cheeks, hair and jawline, so I was really looking forward to trialling Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash. After the first time I used the product my skin felt a little dry and tight, but it was a welcome feeling, rather than when I usually use a cleanser and I feel like it doesn't do anything. After using the product for a few weeks my breakouts had dramatically reduced! My skin did dry out slightly, but I have found that with all face wash products designed for acne so I wasn't worried. I will definitely continue to use this product and will encourage my friends with similar skin issues to try it out!" — Tara

"I used this facial wash years ago but got bored with the cleanser and donated it to a teenage boy who was in need of Neutrogena's BHA exfoliating goodness more than I did. When he finished that bottle, he got his mum to buy him a bigger sized bottle and I believe that to this day he's still using it! I love cleansers that have a pump dispensing mechanism (it's so convenient and clumsy-proof!) and you only need to squirt a tiny amount each time because it lathers superbly. Your skin will feel tight afterwards though so definitely follow it up with toner and moisturiser. As for removing makeup, I recommend a separate oil-based cleanser to use before the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. On an aesthetic level, I find the clear bottle, orange liquid and neutral scent really unexciting, which was why I gave away my cleanser initially. But Neutrogena has addressed this issue by now releasing this classic cleanser in a bright pink grapefruit colour and scent. This cleanser will become my staple in summer." — Willa
