Tips: Care For Curly Hair If You’re a Dude

Lots of guys like JT and Adam Scott make having curly hair look cool, effortless and easy – provided you rule out the *NSYNC years of course – but for your everyday dude, threatening to shave it all off or having a shall-I-or-shall-I-not relationship with your girlfriend's straightener is probably where you're at.

Don't despair. Benn Jae, Winner of Hair Expo 2009 Session Stylist of the Year and fresh from his second stint at New York Fashion Week, has some handy hassle-free tips for you . . .

Always Shampoo and CONDITION. (I’m not sure if BJ made himself heard. Conditioning is very important.) I recommend using a treatment for your conditioner like Schwarzkopf Professional’s SEAH HAIRSPA Wild Rose Masque ($35.95). It contains wild rose oil to keep frizzy, unruly hair under control.

Keep reading. . .Wash your hair only every third day. If you wash too often, all those essential scalp oils that keep curly hair moisturised will be washed away.

Styling products are essential. My personal favourite is Schwarzkopf Professional’s OSiS Loopy ($28.95) – it doesn’t dry crunchy and still allows great movement without giving that ‘80s perm feel. The ladies will be lovin’ it!

Benn’s right; there’s something about a man with nicely-tamed curls.
