Ways to Get Rid of Yellow Stained Nails

Nail Polish Addicts: Make Yellow Fingernail Stains a Thing of the Past

If you paint your nails a lot, your nails will stain. The good news is, it isn't dangerous or a sign of serious health problem if it has been caused only from nail polish. Having said that, yellow nails aren't the prettiest, and many people want to maintain their nail obsession and have stain-free nails. Many of the suggested removal methods can be very drying for the cuticle and continued use will do more harm than having stained nails. So instead, here are nine alternative methods for removing some of the yellow staining. And remember, after using any stain removal method, moisturise those cuticles!

Base Coat

Always use a high-quality base coat! Particularly if you are using a dark shade of polish. This is number one to prevent staining in the first place.

Lemon

An easy and natural way to get rid of stains is using a fresh lemon. Cut a lemon in half and rub the lemon into the nail for about 30 seconds, then rinse well with soap and water. Make sure there are no cuts around the nail before applying the lemon because the acid in the lemon juice will sting!

Toothpaste

Using a toothbrush, work a whitening toothpaste into nails and rinse well. This will have the same effect it does on the teeth by whitening the nail plate. It can dry the cuticle so moisturise well after using.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is mostly used as a natural remedy for nail fungus (nice) but it also works well to help lift some of the staining from the nail. Dilute with warm water first, soak nails, and lightly use a nailbrush to scrub at those stains. Always moisturise cuticles after. And while you have that bottle out, don't forget all the other ways you can incorporate ACV into your beauty routine

Lemon Juice and Bicarbonate of Soda

Mix the two together into a paste and work into the nails using a cotton bud or a toothbrush, then rinse well with warm water.

Denture Cleaning Tablet

Denture cleaners work the same way as toothpaste does. Dissolve one denture cleaning tablet into warm water, soak hands, and then scrub with a nail or a toothbrush before thoroughly washing your hands.

Exfoliator

If your nails aren't too stained or you want to prevent it, making an exfoliating scrub can help keep the yellow stains at bay.

Lavender and Olive Oil

This is a moisturiser and stain remover and will also make your nails smell great! Mix olive oil with a few drops of essential lavender oil and rub into nails.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil helps fight fungus and also moisturises, making this a great solution if you suffer from dry cuticles. Leave this on as a mask for 15 - 20 minutes. It can also be applied on the hands to give the whole hands a moisturising mask. Work into the finger nails and then rinse off.
