Traditionally when the economy sinks, people buy fewer things that they don't really need. Nothing groundbreaking there.
But a couple of girly treats are actually selling better now than they did before. Shoes are moving more than they were last year and in the UK, beauty sales are up. Cosmetics rose 7.4 percent between 2007 and 2008, with skincare up 6.7 percent during the same period.
