Over the last few years, many celebrities have been making the bold beauty decision to shave their heads – going completely bald or wearing a buzz cut. While some have gone under the clippers for roles in movies and TV shows, other stars have decided to get rid of their length in the name of style.

Michaela Coel With a Shaved Head
Ahead of her role in Ahead So Long, Coel decided to shave her head because there wasn’t a lot of representation in media of dark-skinned women with short hair being represented as a love interest. “When I was growing up I never saw no girls that looked like me doing romantic leads,” the actress told BET. “I was pretty determined to do it. And I knew when I get this job and I’m gonna shave my head and I’m going to turn up with no hair and they’re gonna have to make it work.”

Joey King With a Shaved Head
For her role in Hulu’s The Act, King shaved her head to play a presumed-terminally ill child. She loved it so much, she shaved it a full three times. The actress told Allure that the cut didn’t bother her. “I’ve never really had an attachment to my hair. I couldn’t care less what happens to it,” King says.
