I’ve Ditched My £23 Shampoo For a £5 Children’s Hair Wash and I’m Never Going Back

If you have someone under the age of 10 in your life, then you’re probably familiar with the children’s bath and body care range Childs Farm. That’s how I first discovered it anyway, during my two-year-old niece’s bath time. As she was splashing around and playing with her foam letters, I was hit by an overwhelming whiff of strawberry. When I noticed the smell was coming from the shampoo I’d just used to wash her hair, I was suddenly annoyed that my shampoos didn’t have the same delicious scent. Who says just because I’m 28 years old, I can’t have sweet, fruity smelling hair (in a cute bottle with a unicorn on it) too?

I’ve tried a lot of different body care products over the past few years and it’s definitely one of my favourite parts of the job, however, it does mean that my shower routine is now on the more expensive side. After having a quick scan of my bathroom cabinet, I was actually shocked to find out that the total value of my daily shower, body and hair routine amounts to around £200 – and none of it leaves me smelling like a delicious strawberry.

That’s when I came up with the idea to swap all of my high-end bits for the entire Childs Farm range instead. I’ve been using the products for a couple of weeks now and I’m pleasantly surprised with the results – however there are definitely some luxury products I’m not ready to let go of completely. Keep reading to find out how much of the child-friendly range has earned a permanent place in my bathroom cupboard.

  • The entire product range is suitable for newborns and upwards.
  • Childs Farm uses up to 99% natural ingredients in every product.
  • My Childs Farm Product Swaps

To give you a good idea of the products I was changing, I’ve listed all the swaps I made below:

  • TYPEBEA G2 Strength & Length Shampoo (£23) for Childs Farm Strawberry & Organic Mint Shampoo (£5)
  • TYPEBEA G2 Strength & Length Conditioner (£23) for Childs Farm Strawberry & Organic Mint Conditioner (£5)
  • Arkive The Good Habit Hybrid Oil (£14) for Childs Farm Strawberry & Organic Mint Detangler (£5.50)
  • Molton Brown Wild Mint & Lavandin Bath & Shower Gel (£25) for Childs Farm Oat Derma Body Wash (£6.50)
  • Rare Beauty Find Comfort Hydrating Body Lotion (£28) for Childs Farm Lavender and Moon Milk Calming Massage Lotion (£7.50)
  • Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil (£58) for Childs Farm Organic Raspberry Bubble Bath (£4.50)
  • What I Liked About Using Childs Farm

First and foremost, the scrumptious scents are by far my favourite part of using the Childs Farm products. I love how the strawberry and organic mint aroma floats around my bathroom after the shower and it leaves a subtle scent in my hair for a day or two after as well. The raspberry bubble bath has been a popular hit with everyone in the house and to be honest, it has the same relaxing aromatherapy effect as the £58 bath oil.

One of the best bits about having a bathroom full of luxury products is how aesthetically pleasing it is. I hate to admit it, but I keep a Diptyque perfume and an unopened Aesop hand soap by my sink just for decoration – so it’s safe to say I wasn’t overjoyed at the thought of replacing all my products with brightly coloured bottles covered in farm animals and rainbows. However, one morning I actually caught myself laughing at one of the sweet designs. It helped me shake the grumpy morning feeling off and start my day full of positivity and unicorns.

Another thing I really enjoyed was the quality of products for a significantly cheaper cost. I knew that products made for children were going to be gentle enough for all skin types, full of natural ingredients and created by dermatology experts. While they are quite fragrant, I had no issues with sensitivity or dryness. A little went a long way, especially with the bubble bath and hair detangler. In total, I saved around £150 and still saw great results. My hair was shiny, my skin felt soft and I smelled great.

What to Consider Before Using Childs Farm

There are some products I use frequently that, understandably, aren’t available in the Childs Farm range. I doubt there’s a high demand for nourishing hair masks in the newborn market so I’ll be keeping my beloved Gisou Honey Infused Hair Mask (£45) in my routine, along with my Rituals The Alchemy Collection Body Scrub (£15).

Another thing to consider is if you have any specific concerns for example dry, damaged hair or uneven skin texture. The Childs Farm range isn’t created with these problems in mind, there’s no special peptides or acids which you might find in products aimed at an older market.

Where to Buy the Childs Farm Product Range

The new Childs Farm range launces on the 14th October and will be available directly on the brand’s website, in most supermarkets including Tesco and Sainsbury’s and most high-street beauty retailers including Boots and Superdrug.
