I Wore This Natural Deodorant on a Date and Not Only Did It Hold Up, It Smelt Heavenly
For a long time, there has been controversy around antiperspirant ingredients, in particular, aluminium, meaning more and more brands are looking to alternative, natural formulas. And while there are a decent amount of non-toxic deodorants to choose from, anyone whose tried one knows that they can be super hit or miss.
Out of curiosity, I've always been happy to try natural, non-aluminium deodorants in the hopes of making more conscious beauty choices. But for some crazy reason, I decided to test one out right before going on a first date. I know what you're thinking . . . risky move. Correct.
I was running late (typical) and couldn't find my usual deodorant, so when this one was peering out of a package I was recently sent, I swiped it on and ran for my Uber. It wasn't until I got home from the date (still smelling amazing even after nervously sweating through the first 10 minutes of said date) that I realised I needed to know more about this natural deodorant.
Corpus Naturals California Natural Deodorant is a water-based, baking soda free, vegan formula that uses natural fragrance and naturally derived enzymes and plant extracts to reduce body odour. I used the California scent which is described by the brand as a "sunny and clean scent with unexpected depth and character reminiscent of a beach breeze, sea salt skin, soft floral notes and powdery citrus." It's easy to glide on, doesn't feel sticky and won't stain your clothes. Tick, tick, tick.
If you've never used a natural deodorant before, it's important to note that they won't actually prevent you from sweating like your usual antiperspirant, they just help to prevent or mask odours.
After such a huge success on the date, I've begun using Corpus' California regularly. Unlike other natural formulas (and some antiperspirants), it hasn't irritated my underarms and it doesn't go all slimy the minute I break a sweat. It also smells so good you'd think it was a Le Labo or Byredo fragrance, which is a massive bonus considering they usually smell like essential oils. There are six fragrance options to choose from California, Third Rose, Cedar Floral, The Botanist, Santalum and N°Green.
While it is a little pricier than your usual deodorant, coming it at $35, when you break it down by cost per wear (it's a roll-on) and add in the fact that it's better for you, it's worth it in my opinion.
