It's Not Just Addison Rae – Crystal Eye Makeup Will Trend Everywhere in 2022

Minimalism has had its time in the spotlight, but it seems like maximalists are ready to shine. As a result, the streets are dripping with main character energy. Gone are the baggy sweat suits and stretched-out wash days: people are making it a point to show up and show out to reclaim the years we spent having to remain inside our homes. The biggest trend in beauty, according to Pinterest Predicts’ 2022 report? Crystal eye makeup.

Glitter, gemstones, sparkle, and full-on crystals are expected to dominate the makeup world next year with searches for the trend already up 110% on Pinterest. Elevated eye makeup has already begun to make its return with everything from the inner corner pop to the four-dot eye trend dominating social media over the last few months. However, crystal eye makeup or bejewelled eyes are where people take gems (or Swarovski crystals if we’re feeling fancy) and use them to accentuate their eyes. One of the most recent iterations of this trend we’ve seen is by makeup artist Nikki Wolff, who completely decked out Addison Rae’s eye makeup with the trend for the British Fashion Awards recently and it was so. damn. mesmerising.

Join us in also spending a (potentially inordinate) amount of time staring at sparkly eye makeup. Ahead we’ve rounded up our favourite crystal eye makeup looks to serve as ultimate inspiration – for New Year’s Eve parties and beyond.

Amanda Gorman's Crystal Eye Makeup

Julia Garner's Crystal Eye Makeup

Why do a black winged liner when you can do a silver gem-encrusted winged liner instead? It seems that Julia Garner and makeup artist Pat McGrath thought just that. At the 2021 Met Gala, Garner wore five tiny individual gems placed from the outer corners of her eyes extending up towards her temples and three smaller gems on the inner corners of her eyes.

Storm Reid's Pearl-Studded Eye Makeup

For her ever first Met Gala, Storm Reid went full-on pearl-themed with this beautiful statement eye look. Makeup artist Paul Blanch created a swooping shape with teeny pearl studs around Reid’s eyes and kept the rest of her makeup a pretty pink using all Maybelline products.
