God Save the (Beauty) Queen: Florence Pugh Proves Punk’s Not Dead at the 2023 BAFTAs

Florence Pugh lit the BAFTAs red carpet the f*ck up, winning the evening with a micro fringe and nose ring, and mesmerising spiked bun.

Pugh’s beauty look balanced two trending styles: ballerina-core and punk-goth. Her soft, feminine makeup showcased cloud skin, a matte rosey lip, full Hepburn-esque brows (to match her equally Hepburn-esque micro-fringe) and a baby cat eye. Her ballayaged blonde locks were slicked back in a classic ballerina bun with a (literal) surprise twist — a punk, fanned-out halo with an architectural twist at its centre. This bun had layers.

Pugh’s manicure was simple, short pastel lilac with a single feature nail decked out in diamantés to match her Tiffany & Co bling.

The look was perfectly in sync with her floaty and structural, semi-transparent Nina Ricci gown, as well as the “no f**ks to give” attitude she’s been serving in recent interviews. Last week, Pugh deflected questions about the drama-filled set of “Don’t Worry Darling” in an interview with Vanity Fair. Serving us all a lesson in polite boundary setting she said: “I don’t really want to be going down the ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ conversation… I’d rather let that one sit.”

Pugh has been under the pump since last year. From slamming critics of her tiny t*ts in July, to enduring the fanfare around the chaotic “Don’t Worry Darling” set and premiere, speculation about her situationship with co-star and friend Will Poulter and heavy criticism of her age-gap relationship with now-ex Zach Braff, most of us would have gone to ground, hiding under our beds. Instead, Pugh lit up the red carpet with a sly smile and a sweet moment with actress Naomi Ackles.
