The haircare options for those with curly and coily hair are slowly starting to expand in the beauty industry. And while this change is greatly overdue, it’s still worthwhile celebrating the win when another brand makes its offering all the more inclusive.
Function of Beauty, known for its customisable skincare and haircare products, is now offering the world’s first Custom Co-Wash (from $35) that is designed to gently cleanse and moisturise curly and coily hair, while also making it softer and helping to reduce breakage and split ends.
As with other products in the Function of Beauty range, you simply take the hair quiz to determine what your hair type, structure and moisture level is and this helps inform your personalised product. You then select up to five hair goals, which include options like fix split ends, hydrate, anti-frizz, oil control and curl definition.
You’re then asked to customise the scent of your product, with a plethora of fragrances to choose from, including lavender, eucalyptus, rose or fragrance-free. To finish off, you pick the colour of your products. Yep, you can choose between colours like mint green, yellow, blue and pink!
The Custom Co-Wash is Curly Girl Method approved and is free of silicone, parabens, sulfates and drying alcohols. It’s packed full of moisturising ingredients to make your hair feel softer and helps create less cuticle abrasion that is associated with combing and brushing.
The key ingredients used include shea butter, for nourishment, Jamaican black castor seed oil, for softening, avocado oil and aloe vera, for moisturisation, and hydrolysed quinoa, to help prevent your colour from fading. So good!
