One of the wildest stories this year occurred in February when Tessica Brown used an adhesive called Gorilla Glue as a substitute for her hairspray, which she had run out of. Brown’s TikTok video of her post-hair glueing struggle went viral (it has been viewed more than 37 million times) and she promptly became known as the ‘Gorilla Glue Girl’.
What happened after the initial application of the Gorilla Glue was quite the ordeal as Brown was left with a frozen ponytail that she couldn’t free from the glue. After a month of trying to free the hair, Brown chopped off her ponytail in the hopes it would help ease away the glue but still no luck.
Brown was then connected with a Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon called Dr Michael Obeng who offered to surgically remove the glue for free. According to Vox, this procedure would usually cost around US $12,500 (over AUD $16,000). Dr Obeng removed the glue with “a homemade solvent of medical-grade adhesive remover, an ingredient called MGD, some acetone, aloe vera, and olive oil”, while Brown was under light anesthesia for the four-hour procedure.
And now, months after the surgery, Brown has resurfaced — this time for a far more positive reason. According to TMZ, Brown recently launched her own haircare line, which includes a hairspray called Forever Hold. All we can say is: bow down. What a way to turn a bad situation on its head and win the game!
Brown told TMZ that she has been working with haircare professionals to perfect the formula for her line, called Forever Hair, and that she specifically created the products for those experiencing hair loss or damage, as she knows first hand how it feels.
