Our How-To Guide For Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes (and How Often You Should Do It)
Raise you hand if you're guilty of forgetting to clean your makeup brushes and beautyblenders? (Hi, yes, welcome to the group!) Honestly, we're all a little guilty of it, and sure you might clean your brushes regularly, but are you doing it regularly enough?
At the very minimum, you should be cleaning your makeup brushes at least once a week, when it comes to base brushes, you can afford to stretch out the clean to once a week, however for concealer and any eye brushes you should really be cleaning them between uses to avoid any kind of bacterial infections. It's also recommended that you wash them with a brush shampoo or cleanser regularly to avoid any kind of nasty product build up that could lead to pesky breakouts and inflections.
It's important to note that there is a difference between cleaning them and washing them. Cleaning is what we refer to when you give them a light spray with an antibacterial cleaner and wiping away the excess product between uses. Washing them means actually giving the bristles or sponge a good wash or soak with a cleanser and leaving them to air-dry.
Although that sounds like a laborious task, there are a few nifty products on the market that can make brush cleaning a dream.
